Another Wonderful Week in Kindergarten!

This week we kept very busy and worked very hard! Students completed the math portion of Map testing and will complete the Reading portion next week on Tuesday and Wednesday. You will receive scores within the next few weeks. We also dove into the first units of our ELA and Math curricula, Reading Street and Math in Focus, and began our "Star Student" program in Social Studies. We are learning so much about ourselves, each other and everyone is become good friends!

Important Information

1. Our first homework packet went home on Monday! It will be due on Tuesday, September 8th (because of Labor Day). Homework packets will be sent home on Mondays and are due the following Monday. I hope that this will give those of you who have a busy schedule, the opportunity to sit down and work with your child on these assignments.

2. Reading logs went home this week as well! They are due at the end of the month. The goal is for your child to read or listen to at least one book per night for 10 minutes with you or a family member. Reading books aloud to children help them to develop concepts of print, a sense of story, creativity, and rhythm and flow of language.

3. Our first Show-And-Tell was today. Show-And-Tell will be every Friday. Next week in ELA, we will be talking and writing about our feelings. Please have your child bring in something that makes them feel happy.

4. Our class pet, Benny the Elephant, went home with one lucky classmate today! He will be going home with a student (at random) every Friday!

5. I still do not have all signed syllabus and handbook forms. Please sign and return these forms as soon as possible.

6. Some parents have expressed interest in sharing their emails with other parents from our class in order to stay in touch and share helpful information. If you would like to include and share your e-mail with parents from our class please send me an e-mail, by next week, stating your permission. I will then create a class e-mail list and send it out. Thank you!

Mystery Reader

Starting this month I would love to have some mystery readers visit our class! It could be someone in your family; a sibling, grandparent, parent etc. It would be wonderful to have all parents/families take part of this program during the year. Please limit your visits to once a month so that other families can have an opportunity to be a reader. And lastly, please keep your visit a secret from your child! Thank you so much! You can sign up with this link:

Change of Clothes

Please send in a change of clothes that can be kept in your child's cubby. For any reason clothes get soiled, I would like to have a backup outfit. Thank you!

Rest Time

In order to make rest time more comfortable for your child, they can bring in a comfy blanket to relax with. Students can also bring in a book from home if they would feel more comfortable with reading a book quietly during this time.

Lunch Thermos

If your child needs their lunch heated, I believe it would be best to buy a thermos to keep their lunch warm for lunch time. I have noticed a lot of children with lunches that need to be heated. Microwaves are limited and to ensure that your child has enough time to eat I feel as though a thermos would help this situation tremendously.

Symbaloo is an at-home resource. It is a website that has links to our favorite and most used websites during our school day. I have sorted the links into categories for different skill practice, such as: Math, English Language Arts, Social Studies and Science. If you have any other sites that we can add to our Symbaloo webpage, please let me know!

Classroom Donations Needed

Students have the opportunity to earn "compliments" (tickets) for good behavior that can then be "cashed in" for a prize from the class prize box. I'm asking parents to donate any small prizes that would be appropriate for our box. Please no candy or food! Thank you so much!

Get Connected with the Homeroom App!

The Homeroom App is a great way for me to stay connected to you! It is a completely confidential app that will allow me to upload pictures and videos of your child throughout the school day. You can even comment and save these pictures right to your phone or computer! Here is the link to get started:
