HES Happenings
Where our Monomoy students are 'fin'tastic!
MAY 2017 - HES Parent Calendar & Lunch Menu
Schools will be closed Monday, May 29th in observance of Memorial Day.
'Fin'tastic effort this week earns a student picture with the artist and one of his creations!
As a "thank you" for inviting him to return to HES, he donated a signed 'limited edition' 10/150 prints of his 'Disney' print to our PTO. He also offered to repaint and deliver two of his original paintings that were purchased by the PTO in 2006.
The PTO has once again graciously offered to purchase a few of his portraits to be prominently displayed in our activity (Abraham Lincoln which the students saw him create and Malala Yousafzai which he has been commissioned to complete and return before the summer break)!
"Music Counts Every Day" at HES - Each morning as we get the day started next week at HES we will be listening to the Beethoven's "Pastoral Symphony".
As the weather starts to get better and we move closer to summer, many of us like to spend some time outside, either playing sports, going to the beach, or playing in the yard.
Beethoven also liked to be outside. Stories about him tell how he liked to go for a long walk every day, even in the rain.
On one of these walks he got the idea to write a symphony that described nature. The music this week describes a small river flowing through the countryside and birds singing in the trees.
He called this music his “Pastoral Symphony”, which means that the music describes the quietness of nature and life in the country.
The question this week is:
How many symphonies did Beethoven write?
Correct answers will earn 2 bubbles/water drops.
The answer to last week’s question is:
The band does not have stringed instruments (violin, viola, cello, bass)

Kind words for this group of 'CARING' students about their last 'BLANKET' project...
"I’ve got to say, these were some of the BIGGEST smiles I’ve seen from them, and to say they were thrilled doesn’t even begin to describe their emotions. One resident said, when she put the blanket around her, that she could “feel the love put into it and tell it was homemade.” They were so excited that I had a picture of the kids to show them as well!!! Another resident was so impressed not only at the quality of these blankets, but also by the giving hearts of these 3rd and 4th graders.
The residents also stated that even though it’s Spring, they will get more use out of these now (more so than winter) because we keep the A/C on and they feel a chill sometimes, so they said the timing of this was perfect!
Brought tears to my eyes!!!! What a great moment to experience! I hope these kids fathom the extent of their generosity and the appreciation of their kindness. It truly has impacted these residents (and my) life!!!
Many thanks, not only for the blankets, but for the privilege of working with your group of amazing future leaders.
Keep up the great work; what a great thing to be teaching these kids – and it is something they will NOT forget!!!!
Regards,
Joanna
