Principal's Message
During our second week of school, our students are now getting acclimated well and into the hustle and bustle of the school year. Our classes are a chock full of learning activities and teachers are actively engaging in their lessons with students.
Our fall sports have started with their try-outs and our first games/matches will begin the week of September 20th. We also have our intra-mural program started after school until 3:15PM. Students interested in intramurals must have a physical cleared by our district physician. Students participating in sports and intramurals must have rides provided by their parents/guardians.
We appreciate the patience of our students and parents as we transition safely back into a full school day with student lunches. As students become more familiar and comfortable with some new procedures we have in place, we will be able to allow more flexibility in a structured seating arrangement in the cafeteria. As always student safety will remain at the top of our priority.
As a reminder, we have scheduled our “Visit the School Nights” on Wednesday, September 29th from 5:30-7:30 PM for Grade 6 and Thursday, September 30th from 5:30 – 7:30 PM for Grades 7 and 8. Parents are invited to attend our "Visit the School Nights" either in person or virtually through your child's Google Classroom. Please take advantage of this opportunity to visit our school and meet your child’s teachers. A complete "Visit the School Night" schedule and additional information will be sent home with your child next week.
Wishing all of our families a wonderful weekend,
Mrs. Fronzak
Communities That Care Survey
In partnership with the RWJBarnabas Institute for Prevention and Recovery (IFPR), the Toms River Regional School District is conducting an anonymous youth survey. The survey asks about alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, bullying, school climate, and other predictors of youth problem behavior that impact school safety. The survey costs are paid by the Institute for Prevention and Recovery.
The survey will be given to students in grades six through twelve. No identifying information will be collected on the students who take the survey, and the data will not be shared outside of school district. This survey has been reviewed by school district staff, has been used for many years in schools across the country, and is designed to be appropriate for school aged students.
The results will be used to select and implement tested and effective, evidence-based prevention programs for our students that will reduce substance use, bullying, depression, anxiety, and improve school safety.
If you would like to review the survey questions, a copy is available in my office. Parents/guardians must sign the survey consent form for their child to participate in the survey. The survey is completely voluntary, and students can skip any questions they do not wish to answer. The permission slip for this survey will be available in the Parent Portal beginning Tuesday, September 21, 2021.
New Jersey Department of Education Start Strong Assessments
Parents and Guardians,
Chromebook DIstribution
All students in grades 6-12 are provided with a district Chromebook which will remain in their possession until they graduate from Toms River schools. We are asking for all families to review the student device handbook, which can be accessed both on the district website Parents page at https://www.trschools.com/Parents and on the Parent Portal. We are offering optional insurance coverage that parents will have an opportunity to waive in lieu of acceptance of a fee schedule that is outlined within the handbook. Please visit the Parent Portal at your earliest convenience to review the district policies and procedures. All parents are required to either waive or accept the optional insurance by September 30th or the family will be considered as having waived the insurance and will be responsible for the fees as outlined in the handbook. If there are no damages reported within a given school year, the Chromebook insurance will carry over from year to year for students who have paid and/or are exempt. Any student who is currently in possession of a district device will be asked to return that device before receiving a new one.
A Welcome Message From Our Student Assistance Coordinator
A Student Assistance Coordinator or SAC, provides in-school assessment, intervention, and referral services to all students who may be experiencing personal, family, peer and academic difficulties in relation to substance use/abuse. In addition, they provide a safe and confidential environment available during school hours for students to discuss issues. The SAC can provide community referral services for substance abuse counseling, treatment and related problems. If you have any questions or concerns, contact your school SAC at the phone or email address below.
