Mighty Tritons
Thank you staff for a great week of celebrating our teachers and our amazing nurse. I hope you had a fun weekend celebrating the wonderful mothers in our lives. We have a lot of great events happening all week. I hope you can get out and support your students. As we wrap up testing, let us know about any students of concern. Please be mindful of the following:
A. FAC Meeting. Let your department representative know of any pressing issues before our meeting this Tuesday. I will also give a preview of our master schedule, master calendar and extra-paid positions.
B. PTSO Meeting. Last meeting of the year is this Tuesday at 6:00 PM in the library. If you have a moment, please send an email to me (I will share) or stop by to give your thanks.
C. Social Luncheon. We will have our final social luncheon on May 16th. We will also have a special long lunch. All students will report to their TSP and then we will release all the students at 12:30. We are ordering from the Teriyaki Grill on 3rd Avenue. Here is the LINK. Food will cost approximately $12. All money is due to Karina by Thursday morning before 1st period. Trust me... these are amazing sandwiches!!
D. 8th Grade Awards Ceremony. The award ceremony is on May 15th from 6:00-8:00 pm. We hope to see you there! Please keep in mind that it means a lot to the students when their nominating teacher presents the award.
E. Dress Code Discussion. We will have our final discussion on this topic at our last faculty meeting of the year on May 17th. Come with solutions. I attached a picture below. We will need to discuss issues of clarity around what exactly is a violation and consistency of enforcement.
F. Common Syllabus and Yubbler. In the spirit of collegiality and creating equitable practices, please make sure you use these last few PLC meetings to focus on creating those shared practices and beliefs. The syllabus is due May 31st. Let me know if you need support at one of your PLC meetings. Also, I want to us to consider Yubbler for a fundraiser. It will require our departments to have similar beliefs about material necessary for their classes. This can be a tremendous opportunity for us!
G. Final Faculty Meeting. We will review end of the year procedures, celebrate our staff and set the stage for next year.
Let's have a great ending to the school year. As always, let me know of your concerns, questions and/or suggestions. Go Tritons!
A Message from our Assistant Principals!
We are working on implementing Restorative Practice (RP) strategies to our school policies and practices next year. If you want to familiarize yourself with the practice, please check out this short video. For more detailed information, please see this link for what it is considered to be the defining organization for this practice. I want to be clear about this one point: Students will still receive disciplinary action according to their behavior and school guidelines. However, the key to RP is what we do next to make sure the student learns from this behavior and how they return to the classroom with a new perspective and a sense of responsibility to the community. It is about teaching on the importance of relationships and it should be pro-active. We will be developing a series of professional development opportunities around this topic. Thank you to the culture and climate team for helping out!
Safety Tip of the Week: Have a hard copy of your attendance ready at all times—this will help in the event of an evacuation.
We came across these awesome opportunities from Sea World and Disneyland. You might want to check them out!
