Newsletter 2 November 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou katoa, Talofa lava, Kia orana,
A huge thank you to all of the staff and parents who are supporting our tamariki in sport and other activities through out the school. We currently have 15 Teams involved in after school sports- that is a lot of children actively involved.
Last week we have parents and whanau support our camp and EOTC trips. Thank you for helping us help your children.
Good luck to our Ki-O-Rahi teams who are competing at HGHS today. I know that you are going to do your best and represent us well. This is the first Ki-O-Rahi tournament that has been held and the children are excited about taking part.
We have had Mr Gadd back with us this week, working with staff and some children to help find ways to improve our school writing programme further. He has been very impressed with the efforts that our staff are putting in to help support our children.
Well done everyone.
Year 6 Parents
We have had a few calls from the Intermediates asking us about the enrolments for next year.
If you haven't enrolled your child please do so as soon as possible. The intermediates are in the process of organising classes for next year now.
Contact them directly to get this done.
Emergency Practices:
Last week we had a fire drill, earthquake drill and a lockdown practice to learn what to do in an emergency. I was very proud of the way the children reacted to these drills.
Remember that we have a Teacher Only Day on Monday 21st November with no-one at school on that day. If you want to book your children into the YMCA programme please let them know as soon as possible.
Lucky Book Orders:
Thank you to those parents who have ordered books. Orders will close on Friday 4 November.
The books will then be sent to school after the order closes and we will distribute them.
Please follow this link and order books if you wish.

· Do your child’s records need updating?
- moved house?
- phone/cellphone numbers changed?
- living arrangements changed?
- emergency contacts changed?
- medical details?
Medical Reminders
IMPORTANT: Children are NOT to carry any form of medication in their bags etc. All medication must be held in the office. Parents must complete a Medical Form to enable staff to administer medication.
We often have a few ‘bugs’ around the school.
· A common one is a nasty cough/flu type illness. Keep your children home if they have symptoms of this as it spreads easily.
· If your child has had vomiting or diarrhoea, they MUST stay home for 2 days after the last event. This illness definitely spreads quickly around the school.
· Headlice are always around so make sure that you check your child’s hair regularly (we suggest weekly) and treat the hair if necessary. We have treatments available from school for free. Just pop in and we can give you some.
· If your child is at all unwell, please keep them home so that they don’t pass bugs on to other children. Also if a child is feeling unwell they are not able to learn easily and are much better off at home snuggled up in bed.
Don’t forget to contact the school office to let us know when your child is unwell please.
Volunteers needed for supervision of our school patrollers.
The children are well trained, it is just a matter of having an adult supervise from 8.30-9.00. Please contact Chris in the school office if your are able to help (even if you have helped in the past, please confirm).
