Second Grade
Dear Second Grade Parents,
Our field trip to Green Acres School to view the "Building Bridges" photo exhibit was the highlight of our week! We teamed up with a Second Grade class at the school to learn more about stories of immigrants and refugees. First, we listened to Lost and Found Cat: The True Story of Kunkush's Incredible Journey by Amy Shrodes and Doug Kuntz. Afterward, we viewed several portraits from the exhibit with a partner from Green Acres and answered questions about each immigrant or refugee. When we returned to school, we discussed what we used to think and what we now think about immigrants, refugees, and other terms we learned this week. We hope you continue to talk to your kids at home. Here are some questions to help you start a conversation:
- What is the difference between immigrants and refugees?
- What did you used to think before the field trip and what do you think now?
- Tell me about Kunkush the cat and the journey Kunkush made to be reunited with his family.
- Tell me about one of the immigrant or refugee stories you read about at Green Acres. Where was he or she from? Why did the come to America?
- What does diversity mean to you?
Thank you and have a wonderful long weekend!
