Striving to be better today than yesterday!
Worth the Wait
In December, CISD will begin teaching a unit on sexual health to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders at Smith Middle School and Wheat Middle School. The CISD School Board has chosen the Scott & White Wellness and Sexual Health Program, previously known as Worth the Wait. It is a comprehensive two week abstinence based program that includes lessons based on the medical and legal facts regarding teen sexual activity.
We would like for each student to participate in this excellent curriculum; however, we respect your right as a parent to deny permission for your child to participate. Permission slips have been sent home with your student. If you have additional questions or would like to view the material, please contact your student's science teacher.
CKH Connection - Greeting Others!
Before the beginning of every class, teachers shake the hands of students and provide them with a warm welcome and a smile as they begin the day. Even such small gestures can make an enormous impact; you wouldn't believe the number of students who respond positively to a physical connection. These steps also show mutual respect, making it less likely for negative behaviors to occur later.
This also teaches appropriate communication when greeting others in social situations. How can you help your student grow this social skills? When meeting someone new, encourage your student to extend a hand and introduce themselves!
