Letter from Dr. Eicher
Dear John Burroughs Families,
The school year is absolutely flying by. Winter break is less than four weeks away! We have three full weeks of instruction prior to the winter break which begins on Wednesday December 21st and concludes on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2023. There is also a 30-minute district-wide early release on Tuesday December 20th. School will dismiss at 3:00 pm on December 20th. Please plan to pick up your students no later than 3:00 pm if they do not ride a bus. Please expect students home 30-minutes early on December 20th.
The upcoming days are action-packed at John Burroughs Elementary School. While your students are engaged in meaningful learning activities and opportunities, there is also time to celebrate and enjoy the season. We have built in positive behavior rewards recognition in addition to outstanding attendance incentives. We are celebrating kindness each Wednesday.
Students with three or fewer absences between November 14th and December 16th will be our guests of honor at a special catered dinner held at John Burroughs Elementary on the evening of December 19th, 2022. Students may bring one invited adult guest of their choice to the dinner which is by invitation only and is based on strong school attendance during the weeks leading up to the winter break.
Also, during December, we will be completing not one but two field trips to the Columbus Zoo. Mrs. Tucker and Mrs. Clark are piloting a Science Studies Weekly experiential learning trip and are traveling with their classes to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium on December 15th. Ms. Eustace’s class will also be traveling to the Columbus Zoo on Thursday December 1st as part of their ongoing project-based learning initiative. Our multiple disabilities classes will also be traveling to Lifetown on an experiential learning trip on December 6th.
We will be hosting several musical and theatrical performances during the month of December at John Burroughs Elementary. The Dublin Dance Company will present Nutcracker Wishes on Thursday, December 8th. Burroughs music concerts will be held on Tuesday December 13th at 10:00 am and at 2:00 pm. Strings will play first, followed by the band, followed by the choir. We invite pk-2 to attend the morning concert along with parents, and grades 3-5 along with parents attend the afternoon concert. Parents just pick which concert fits into their schedule. It is the same concert twice. To conclude the month, the Briggs High School Show Choir will be performing for our students on Friday December 16th and the Hiltonia Strings will perform for our students on Monday December 19th.
We will conclude the month of December on Tuesday December 20th with everyone wearing their PJ’s as we celebrate PJ Day! I hope that everyone takes time to enjoy the holiday season with family and friends.
With Burroughs Pride,
Dr. Mike Eicher, Principal
