Don't Forget--Be a Zombie at KMS!
Keller Middle School Theatre is looking for a few good zombies in 5th or 6th grade to help with our fall production of All I Ever Really Needed To Know I Learned from Being a Zombie. You will be helping with ushering and the first and last scenes of the show.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AND THE FORM CAN BE FOUND HERE:
Please direct any questions to Kati.Grimmer@kellerisd.net.
Sixth Grade Classes
- This week we are completing our Commedia Dell'Arte unit with 2 minute improvisations. The students will also take a short quiz. See the review attached to the email and on my website.
- Next week we begin to write monologues (short speeches from the perspective of a character).
*For homework, the students will be expected to take a photograph of someone they know and ask them a question. Students will bring in the photo and quotation for a grade. This will be due October 21st and 22nd.*
- Last Wednesday, Mrs. Swart and the Pheonix Theatre Department from New Directions High School visited my 4th period class (the Slytherin class). They spoke with the students about bullying and their upcoming production. Photos of the day and details about their show are below. Look for them in the Keller Citizen!
The Cycle (Play)
Location: New Direction Learning Center
Tickets: $5 for everyone
Additional performances:
October 22 at 7:00
October 24 at 7:00
Rating: PG/PG-13. This play is about bullying, and the director tells me there are references to suicide and inappropriate photos being spread online.
I will not be advertising this play to the students as part of the BCI in the House events. However, this is the play to which my 6th grade Slytherin class contributed (see above), and I wanted to let you know in case you wanted to see it!

Fifth Grade Classes
This week we are working on interviews. Students act as a character or celebrity while asking/answering questions in a talk-show-like setting in front of the class!
NEEDED: OLD T-SHIRTS!!
- We have a costume assignment coming up in which we will cut up an old t-shirt to make something new! Each student will need one, so if you have any lying around, it would be greatly appreciated! My goal is to do this project the week leading up to Halloween.
Ask Your Student:
- Why does Tiger Lily come back for Peter Pan?
- How does Hook cheat in his sword fight?
- What makes an interview good? bad?
- Why should you not ask "yes or no" questions?
Our first BCI in the House event was a success!
Thinking Critically:
What did you like about the film?
What would you change?
Why did the creators make the choices they did?
BCI in the House
BCI in the House is a social function designed to encourage students to see theatre and film in the district.
Reminders:
- This is not required or expected--for fun only!
- Guardians are responsible for their students PLUS the cost of admission. This is NOT a school-sponsored activity and no chaperones will be provided.
- Content: Please be aware that some content may be geared towards older students. It is up to you to research each production to ensure you are comfortable with what your child will see.
