Child Mining
The Dangers of Mining
In many countries children in poverty are forced into the mining industries to help support their families. In the tunnels and mine shafts they risk death from explosions, rock falls, and tunnel collapse. They breathe air filled with dust and sometimes toxic gases.
The Life of a Miner
Mining is known to be one of the most dangerous forms of labor for children. More than 1 million kids are forced into the mining industry, and can be paid as little as two dollars a day. The kids are as young as eight years of age, and for those who are not forced into mining are forced to quit school and help provide for their families. These kids work in shafts completely under ground and work shifts of up to 24 hours.
