2023-24 Class Placement Parent Input- Feb. 3-Feb. 24

Dear Parents,

One of the most critical and time-consuming tasks for teachers, and for me, during this time of year is class placement for next year. The procedure we follow to ensure the best classroom environment possible for each child has several steps and takes several meetings.

This task is even more challenging when we receive a large number of parent requests in the spring. Before we developed a policy on class placement requests, we would receive up to 140 requests for specific class placements each spring. When teachers began to make class lists, we found it impossible to have these requests and still maintain the balance in each classroom that is necessary for kids to have the optimum environment in which to learn.

Fortunately, Werner’s class placement policy, developed some years ago by our Werner Council, has worked well for us. Please take the time to read the policy. My hope is that it will answer your questions or concerns. If it doesn’t, please let me know (hcamp@psdschools.org).

Please do not feel that you need to give us written input. In other words, do not feel obligated to write a letter unless you have a specific reason to do so. You can be sure if a teacher has questions about class placement for your child, they will ask you for information. We believe that input is any information about your child that will help us know their situation better. Input is not a request for a specific teacher. Input asking for a specific teacher will not be included in the Class Placement Process. All input will be shared with current and next year’s teacher.

If you do choose to give us input, the window this year is Feb. 3-24. We are offering the opportunity for input to happen online through the Werner Class Placement Input Form. Please complete a new form for each child. This is secure and confidential, but input will be shared with your child’s current teacher as they consider class placement. Emails and other notes will not be accepted. Input will close at 5:00 pm on Feb. 24.

Sincerely,

Hayden Camp

Principal

Classified Appreciation Week- Feb. 13-17

Each year, PSD sets aside time to show our appreciation to our Classified Staff. These amazing people are the paraprofessionals, office staff, custodians, lunch staff, bus drivers, and countless other support personnel across the district. We are so fortunate to have a great team of that serve our school! Our staff will be celebrating them during the week of Feb. 13-17. If you would like to send a note of "thanks", please send in with your child! All of our staff are listed in the Staff Directory on our website.

Family Engagement Survey

Hello PSD Families,

Poudre School District (PSD) wants to better understand, and continuously improve, the student and family experience within PSD schools. Please take 15 minutes to click on the survey link below and answer questions that have to do with student transitions between schools and between grade levels, the welcoming and inclusive environment of our schools, communications between school and home, and supporting student success.

Your individual responses will remain anonymous in all reports. The information collected

will be aggregated to produce actionable school-specific feedback that will be shared with the staff of each school. PSD administrators and teams of educators take your input seriously and look forward to continuing to provide a world-class education experience here in Northern Colorado. For questions or comments, please contact Dwayne Schmitz at dschmitz@psdschools.org or (970) 490-3693.

Thank you for taking a moment to provide us with your input and thoughts. This survey closes 2-10-23 at 5:00 pm.

Support Students Experiencing Homelessness

The number of PSD families and youth experiencing homelessness has risen by 10% since last year, and their needs have risen exponentially. Currently, one out of every 27 students is experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity in our district. Students experiencing homelessness encounter many barriers to their education. Our department works to help youth and families overcome these barriers, including transportation, access to extracurricular activities, before and after-school care, and meeting basic needs. We do this along with case-management to help them reach independence.

Your generous donation allows the Language, Culture and Equity Department to support these students and families with personal items, temporary shelter, provisions, clothing, etc.

The need has never been greater.

Please help us reach our goal of raising $40,000 to support PSD students and families facing housing insecurity and homelessness.

*All donations are tax deductible, and an automated email will provide you with your tax receipt.

NEWS FROM THE COMMUNITY

Transfort Feedback Needed

Transfort, the transit agency owned by the City of Fort Collins, seeks community input on permanently changing to a fare-free transit system.

In March 2020, Transfort eliminated fare collection as part of the agency’s response to COVID-19. Although COVID restrictions have been lifted and Transfort has resumed regular operations, Transfort has not resumed fare collection, opting instead to explore whether fare free operations are possible on a permanent basis.

Community members can provide feedback by taking Transfort’s survey at www.fcgov.com/transfortsurvey. The survey contains a section of fare-related questions as well as other transit-related questions, including what factors community members consider when making decisions to ride (or not ride) Transfort.

The survey will be open until Feb. 15, 2023.

Thank you

_________

Gracias
