For those who plan to use a school instrument, please fill out the PUSD Instrument Use Agreement, below. Cost is free. Instruments are older, but playable.
Link: https://forms.gle/sgJnfmNUaARJD7Di8
--> Once your student has attended his or her first band class, where we will discuss and practice proper instrument care, and you have filled out the form above, your student will be able to begin bringing his or her instrument home for personal practice. Please do all you can to help them remember to bring their instruments to school on Mondays for band!
Important--For anyone whose child has not yet gotten an instrument, you can either call Blue Note (the phone number and a price list is on the attached flyer) to arrange for a rental--I can pick it up and deliver it to the school for your child to pick up--or fill out an Instrument Rental Agreement (purple link, above) and I will distribute an instrument to your child on Monday.
--> Important to remember: I recommend that you not buy an instrument from a large box store that doesn't specialize in musical instruments! These instruments look great, but they tend to not work, do not sound good, and tend to fall apart easily.
--> If you have an old instrument in a closet for them to use, please remember to have it serviced by a music repair shop right away, to make sure it still plays well (often costs $200+) so your student doesn't get frustrated by an instrument that leaks or has other problems.
If you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns, please feel free to email Jane Brown, our QES music teacher, at jbrown@pcoe.k12.ca.us .
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPALS
October 15, 2021:
Hello QES Families:
Congratulations to Ms. Molsee for her promotion from Vice Principal to Principal of QES Pioneer Campus. Mrs. Hollister and Ms. Molsee will continue to collaborate to ensure students at both campuses are having the best possible school experience. We continue to be one elementary school -Quincy Elementary School- with two campuses. Go Cougars!
Thank you to those of you who participated in our mass testing event. We will continue to do all that we can to keep students and staff as safe as possible.
As you have seen, our PCO in collaboration with the administration has opted to cancel our Fall Fest for this weekend. We are disappointed, but look forward to healthier times when we can hold fun events like our wonderful Fall Fest!
We are teaching our Toolbox curriculum this year to support students in developing resiliency and emotional intelligence. This month we are working on The Quiet/Safe Place Tool
“I remember my quiet/safe place”
When life gets stressful, each of us needs a place to feel safe – a place with some space between ourselves and what is happening around us. The Quiet/Safe Place, whether a real location or a place in the imagination, offers awareness that a Quiet/Safe Place is available in order to calm and refocus ourselves. This Tool is about learning to focus on a memory of our safe places, which triggers our body to relax.
Quietness gives one strength. When we have a “place” of solace, safety, and quiet, then creativity, imagination, and self-expression emerge naturally. One way we feel safe is when we have a quiet, safe place physically. The Quiet/Safe Place Tool is a way of remembering our quiet stillness.
Here is how the Quiet/Safe Place Tool works:
Place hands over ears while bending head slightly forward. Close eyes and “go to” your quiet/safe place…any time.
Here are some suggestions for using the Quiet/Safe Place Tool at home:
- Talk about your own Quiet/Safe Place and ask your children about theirs.
- Ask your children to explain the Quiet/Safe Place Tool tag line, “I remember my quiet/safe place,” and the hand gesture that goes with it. Help children to remember to use the tag line and the gesture along with their Quiet/Safe Place Tool.
- During times of stress, suggest that your children use their Quiet/Safe Place Tool.
By practicing the Tools at home, you are helping your child develop resiliency and helping us create a happier, healthier school community together.

Free Crisis Counseling available for California residents
It’s been a tough last year and a half for many in our county. The Covid 19 pandemic has brought hardship and uncertainty to our community, and the added stress of several catastrophic wildfires in the past two summers has added another layer of difficulty.
This double crisis has put tremendous burdens on all of us, and many people have no choice but to struggle alone. This is why California State has started a productive new partnership with BeWellLine, a partnership that will bring care to the people who need it most.
The BeWellLine mission is to provide evidence-based, free-of-charge care to people who might not have access to it otherwise. This is a free service, available to anyone, without regard to existing insurance coverage or qualification. Everyone in the state of California is entitled to reach out and get the help they need, receive advice and counseling, and share their story.
If you’ve been struggling through the pandemic alone or feel like you need greater guidance and support, get in touch with the BeWellLine by calling (855) 838-6910 or visiting bewellline.com or calhopeconnect.org today to arrange a counseling session or learn more about how they can help you.The counseling services are available by phone, online chat, and video conferencing, and are free.
