Superintendent's Update - 9.17.2021
Dear CPS Community,
As the first full week of school ends, I want to remind you there is still time to sign-up for our COVID Pool Testing program, Test and Stay protocol, and provide your child’s vaccination status (if they are age-eligible). As you can see from the weekly CPS COVID Dashboard posted to the district website, we had some positive COVID cases this week. Our response protocols worked well, however it would be incredibly helpful for parents to decide ahead of time, that if your child is identified as a close contact of a COVID positive individual, if you would like them to remain in school (if asymptomatic) and participate in the daily Test and Stay protocol. Absent valid parent consent on file to participate in the Test and Stay protocol at the time your child is identified as a close contact, unvaccinated children must remain home and adhere to the quarantine protocol. Your child may need to quarantine until consent is provided and verified by our school nursing staff if you later decide to participate at the time of close contact identification. Please keep this in mind when making your decision about participation and how your child may be affected.
Below please enjoy some highlights from this past week of our CHIPs PreSchool Program and middle school music programs. It’s great to see our students return to full in-person learning and a more traditional schedule of learning. I hope you have a nice weekend.
Yours truly,
Jay Lang, Ed.D
Superintendent of Schools

International "DOT" Day
International Dot Day, a global celebration of creativity, courage, and collaboration, began when teacher Terry Shay introduced his classroom to Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot on September 15, 2009. The author, Peter Reynolds is a graduate of Chelmsford Public Schools.
The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe.
