The Draving's All-Stars
Winter Has Arrived!
After several weeks of warmer than normal temperatures, winter weather has hit with a vengeance! The district policy is that students go outside for recess unless the windchill is below 0. Please make sure that your child has all of the essential gear to stay warm and still be able to enjoy the fresh air and socialization.
Baby New Year
If you have not sent in a baby picture of your child, please do so by the end of the week. We will be making a fun guessing game with all 3 third grade classes.
Snack
As we have returned to our routine, so has our need for supplies. We are low on extra snack as well as kleenex and disinfecting wipes. If you are able to send in anything, it would be really appreciated.
Math Support
As we progress through the math curriculum, it is essential for students to be able to solve basic addition facts quickly from memorization. Flash cards are a simple, low tech way to work on this. The website Xtramath.org is a site we use at school. 5 - 10 minutes a day would be a powerful way to support this learning. Your child's username and password can be found on the back cover of their Daily folder.
Prodigygame.com is another website that supports math skills. As your child plays, they go through a diagnostic screening and they receive math questions based upon their abilities. I also am able to assign specific tasks to match the skills we are working on in class. Most students find this a really fun game, the more they play the more they learn!

Curriculum Updates
Since we returned to school, your child has been bringing home packets of work from units of study from November and December. With our new Learning Feedback Document (report card and grading system) 3rd grade has decided to keep the essential activities until the unit ends so that they can be closely examined to determine mastery of concepts and skills. Being a new format it takes longer to evaluate and return; I appreciate your patience as I assimilate to this progression document.
I will always send home information through out the unit to keep you aware of how your child is doing. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Classroom Volunteers
Thank you to all of the parents that have been able to volunteer! The kids have loved having you in the classroom! It has allowed us to dig deeper into our learning. I have updated the Sign-Up Genius site; it does contain some changes in days and times. If you are not able to come in, but would like to help out, I do have a couple of projects that can be done at home. Just let me know. I also have things that can be done at school, but not in the classroom if it doesn't work for you to be in the room with your child.
Growth Mindset
We continue to look at ways to improve the confidence and outlook of our students. Below are a few of the quotes we have been talking about in class. Please take some time to talk to your child about these and give them your thoughts as to how they can be used to persevere and not give up when faced with a struggle.
Please feel free to contact me at any time!
