What's going on in the classroom...

….. This month students will be sharing an "impact" book with the class. The selection of a picture book or excerpt from a favorite novel should be made because this piece of literature has somehow had an effect on your child. I will share my "impact" selection with the class by December 4th to give them an example.

….. All verbs, all the time! Our grammar focus through December 17th will continue to be verbs ~ specifically linking verbs and irregular verbs.

..... We will wrap up our focus on units of measurement discovering Pi as it relates to area and circumference. We will also take a final look at area of irregular figures. A unit assessment is planned for Monday, December 14th. As a reminder, thank you for continuing to help your child review his/her math facts at home. As you know, success with computation in the classroom is definitely linked to a high level of confidence.

..... Don't forget that January 3, 2016, will be the final day to take RC quizzes over the Young Hoosier books. A list of the (15) novels can be found on our webpage (web address listed below). Congratulations to those students who have successfully finished reading all of the novels on the list... way to go!

A new year will bring a new face...

When we return from winter break on Monday, January 4, 2016, the 4/5ers will welcome Miss Megan Cassidy to Room B7. Miss Cassidy, a senior at Indiana State, will be a student teacher in our classroom through Friday, April 29th. She and I recently met for coffee at Starbucks and found so many common interests... three hours passed in an instant! Miss Cassidy, once an elementary GT student herself, is very excited about working with intermediate students in this program. She'll be stopping by to introduce herself prior to winter break, and I feel certain she'll be impressed with this dynamic group! I know that she's anxious to introduce herself to you after the first of the year.
