FMS 7th Grade Newsletter: Week of April 20-24
ELA
Greetings! In ELA we've been focused on digging into some literature of choice and keeping a journal. We also have some enrichment opportunities through our BINGO board. Be sure to check that out in the April - At Home Learning Plans. Be sure to log into our scheduled Google Meet each week too! WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOUR KIDDOS, so please encourage them to check in with us.
Right now there are many objectives students can choose from to review and other resources to help which can be found here https://sites.google.com/fulton58.org/7th-grade-fms/ela.
We miss all of you so much and love to hear from you, so please keep reaching out!

Math
Here's the glance of math this week!
To help stay connected, your student's advisory teacher will be sending out a Google Form on Google classroom to students each Monday. Please encourage your student to respond to this.
We will be sending out a weekly 6 question review on Tuesdays through Google Classroom. We will be using this as data to better support your child. Students may use the resources from Review, Reinforce, and Enrich and Padlet while working through the review.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00-2:30 we will be offering video conferencing office hours from 2:00-2:30pm, in addition to our email conferencing. We will be posting the links to join on Google Classroom. Students are welcomed to join in to ask questions or to just check in.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:00 p.m., we will be hosting a Gimkit game where students can answer math questions in a multiple choice format. These are optional, but feedback from students has been that it is a fun way to practice and stay connected.
We are glad to give your student feedback on tasks and projects they are completing at home. They can send us pictures or screenshots of their work (putting them on a Google Doc is the easiest way for us to add comments). Students may also enter equations into MathPapa to check their answers.
If you have any questions or concerns, contact:
Ms. Hassinger: hhassinger@fulton58.org
Ms. Barker: ebarker@fulton58.org
You may also reach out to us via the Remind app. Students can also download this app and login with their school email to be able to communicate with teachers.

Social Studies
Students and Families,
Our news last week by the Governor was not only shocking but disappointing for all of us. We knew that it might be a possibility, but we were all holding out hope that we would return this year. Well, the news wasn't what we wanted to hear but we are going to make the best out of this situation. I hope you're finding time to relax, slow down, and cherish this time with each other. We will continue to communicate with you all and share lessons and ideas for you to review, reinforce, and enrich your learning in social studies. We also understand that you may be working at home, so in no way do we expect you to be "homeschooling" your child/ren. We ask one thing from our families and that is to respond to our email from at least one core teacher a week. We are keeping a communication checklist each week and if we do not hear from you, we will be reaching out to you to make sure you are okay. Hope you all are doing well. New resources will be updated on Google Classroom each week.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need anything,

Revolutionary War vs. Covid-19
Some refer to the outcome of the battle of Yorktown as the world turned upside down. This is exactly like our world right now due to COVID-19. In the battle, the continental army was feeling defeated, they needed a win now. So with the help of Alexander Hamilton, they came up with a plan to attack the British forces by surprise. The next morning General Cornwallis waves the white handkerchief signaling that the Continental army had won the revolutionary war. Who would’ve thought that this little army led by George Washington would beat the global superpower, King George the 3rd, hence the name the world turned upside down. The coronavirus has completely turned this world upside down. Everything is different, the new normal is staying in your house all day long and only leaving to get groceries. 1781, the world turned upside down, 2020, the world turned upside down 2.0
