Full-Year Distance Learning
Wednesday Newsletter #4
Greetings from Mrs. Manou
Thank you very much to all who attended our Back to School Night presentations on Tuesday evening. We do appreciate your support and hope you feel that you have a better understanding of our plans for online instruction as we begin this school year. Once again, I want to acknowledge all of your efforts to support your child in this new learning community. If you were unable to attend Back to School Night, please contact your child’s teacher as many of the sessions were recorded.
Our first FDL material distribution was last Friday, August 28th at Greendell Elementary. It was such a delight to see the parents and some of the students from Kinder, First, Second, and Fourth grades! Now that so much of the materials are individualized by each classroom teacher, FDL families will find less need to pick up supplies at their home elementary sites. Instead, parents will begin to visit Greendell for the materials their child will need. Our next materials distribution will be scheduled soon, so please look for the announcement!
This newsletter contains a lot of important information. Please take a few minutes to look through it. I hope to see you soon at our next Parent Virtual Coffee on September 25 from 3:00 pm- 3:45 pm.
Have a great long weekend!

PAUSD Parent ZOOM Guidelines
PAUSD Parent ZOOM Guidelines
Once your child is set up for their Zoom meeting please allow them to attend the session by themselves, as would happen with a classroom session.
Please try to have your child set up for the meeting in a space where there will be minimum disruptions.
Please do not use photography or any recording equipment (including Zoom recording) during the Zoom session.
Student online safety is important to us, and we need your support to ensure these online tools are used appropriately.
Please do not allow your child to host Zoom chats with friends. This is a tool for adults, and our students are not always able to make the best choices to support the well-being of their peers.

BTSN Teacher and Student Dismissal: 12:00 on Friday, September 4th.
Per the 2020-21 School Year Calendar, we have a minimum day coming up on Friday, September 4th. The TK, Young 5's, and Kindergarten schedules will remain as-is. Students, Grades 1-5, will not have a Lunch Block and instead, Block 3 will be 10:50 am - 12:00 pm.
All staff and students end their day at 12:00 pm on September 4th.
We are excited to offer Project Cornerstone for our FDL families! Project Cornerstone is a social emotional learning program that uses children's literature to help students become caring, confident, empathetic, and responsible citizens.
Greendell FDL and El Carmelo Elementary are partnering to adapt the program to the online format. Volunteering for grades 1-5 will look different due to distance learning and the time constraints during each teaching block. As a result, we will provide pre-recorded readings and activity lessons for teachers to post for students, with the option for teachers to coordinate with their Project Cornerstone parent volunteer to organize live activity/discussion time. Kindergarten has a separate set of books so more information will be coming soon.
We need to have one parent volunteer per classroom to support our teachers and make this program possible. You will be responsible for forwarding the email with each month's book reading and lesson recording, and possibly organizing a live activity (via Zoom) during school hours. If you want to volunteer for this program or to get more information, please fill out this brief volunteer interest form: https://forms.gle/w1nNs4T3pEkhn1t46
