Dear Country Dale Families,

As we work to provide a safe learning environment for our students and staff, we are preparing regular safety drills to continue to develop higher levels of building security. The school safety drills include the following as indicated in our District Crisis Response Guidelines and the Wisconsin State Statutes: fire, security (lockdown, evacuation, hold), severe weather/tornado and medical. Our goal is to continue to help all students, staff, and families be and feel safe in our school.

During the week of September 5-9, we will be conducting a fire drill and then one each month thereafter. During the week of September 12-16, we will conduct a lockdown drill. During the lockdown drill, an announcement will be made and students will remain in their classrooms with their doors shut and locked. Also during the week of September 12-16, we will practice another evacuation drill, specifically to our safe haven. Please ensure your children are wearing comfortable shoes each day this week so they are prepared. Our teachers have been informed to share pertinent procedures and expectations with their students prior to these drills and every student and staff member will evacuate to our safe haven location as a school.

In late September or early October, we will be conducting an emergency medical drill and hold drill. As with our evacuation drill, our teachers will be informed to share pertinent procedures and expectations with their students prior to these drills. For the emergency medical drill, we will also put the building on “hold” and ensure all students and staff remain in their classrooms until the drill is complete.

In addition to the drills we conduct in our schools, the Franklin Police Department also trained our staff on a Run, Hide, Fight response. This plan equips staff and students to assess their situation and respond with which option is best. As the name implies, if danger was upon our school, the response could be to run to a safe place, hide in a locked area or attempt to stop an intruder as a last resort with items found in the school.

On September 7th, classroom teachers will discuss the options of Run, Hide, Fight with their students. The following link is the presentation that the students will view. Please take a moment to view this presentation for our elementary schools (for our elementary students we use the terms "get out" and "hide out" in our presentation). While we will not announce drills before they take place, you will be notified following each security drill that occurs.

Finally, I just wanted to report that we had a fantastic staggered start last week! We appreciate your patience with our busing situation as well as giving our staff and students time to figure out the beginning and end-of-day procedures.

As always, please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.

This is a NEW form this year so if you bookmarked or made a shortcut to the old form from last year, please update. If your child is out sick, the form will also collect information about the symptoms and sickness your child is experiencing so our nursing staff can respond with next steps. Thank you for taking the time to complete this form as it really helps to streamline our processes. The form is located on our website under Parent/Student Info as well as a big button on each school’s home page.

We would like to remind all parents that school lunches are no longer free this year. Lunch is $2.85 and an individual milk purchase is $.45. If you need assistance paying for your student's lunch a link to the Free & Reduced applications can be found on the FPS website under the Lunch Tab. Students will be allowed 3 emergency meals, after this they will receive a cheese sandwich, vegetable, fruit and milk until their account is in the positive. Cheese sandwich meals will be charged to the student's lunch account. We look forward to seeing your children in the lunch line this year!
