Wildcat Connections, Day 2 Today!
During our first Wildcat Connections time, students took a survey to indicate the clubs they are interested in joining. We still need club advisors and tutoring advisors! Please indicate your interest on this document: Wildcat Connections Please remember that advisors receive event credits! We need our Wildcats to have choices for participation. Please coordinate with grade level and departments to discuss possibilities!
We will continue our search for our mascot's perfect name, so far we are down to 3 options: Roary, Paws, and Stripes! Students will be voting "Live" during our broadcast! Stay tuned!
Share the news! Spirit Week is here! When you see some creative participation, please share your pictures with us! (Admin & Counselors)
Daily Attendance Reminders
The following clarifying information was also shared with families in a Wildcat Weekly:
Attendance is key to student success! Please encourage your student to sign on to virtual learning every day and on time. Teachers are required by Senate Bill 98 to take attendance every period, every day.
Students are considered "present" if they log in to their scheduled Live Zoom meetings each day (synchronous) AND if they log on and complete any work during their Learning Options & Work Time (asynchronous) periods.
If students complete work early in a Learning Options & Work Time period, they can log in early for a different period and continue independently with their work in that class. The intention is for each student to log in to each of their classes every day and make progress on their classwork.
Attendance Codes:
A = absent
1 = present for a live Zoom meeting
2 = present for an asynchronous period (by logging into the class on Canvas and working on classwork)
Remember, absences must be cleared within 72 hours (3 school days) after student returns to school. If your student was accidentally marked absent or if you are planning a trip in which your student will miss 5 or more school days, please notify the attendance two weeks in advance to set up an independent study contract.
Please know that these attendance procedures are new, and there will be some adjustments that we are still making. If you have any concerns, please communicate with your student's teacher or with our attendance office (760) 726-8003 x63020 or yeseniabeas@vistausd.org
Virtual Back to School Night This Thursday, Spread the Word!
Health and Safety Update!
Effective Thursday, 9/17/2020, due to new district protocols ALL DISTRICT EMPLOYEES are now required to complete the COVID-19 Daily Health Screening AND enter through the front doors of the school office to have their temperature taken daily before entering campus. If you arrive on campus before 7:30am when office staff is available to take your temperature, you must return to the office before your contracted start time to have your temperature checked. Custodians and Office staff that have start times before 7:30am, please head to the front office at 7:30am to be checked. CNS staff will be checked daily before entering the kitchen by kitchen staff.
Temperatures will only be taken once daily, will not be recorded and all HIPPA laws will be adhered to. If you have a temperature of 100.0 degrees or higher you will be considered to have a disqualifying temperature, Admin will be notified and they will meet with you individually to discuss next steps.
We will have 2 people on campus taking temperatures at all times to ensure that everyone can enter the office as timely as possible without delay. We’d like to thank everyone in advance for your cooperation and patience with these procedures while we do our best to maintain everyone's health and safety on campus. If you have any questions on this matter, please feel free to follow up with an Administrator.
Thank you!
How to Engage Students in Virtual Instruction without the Cameras On!
Zoom Expectations and Scheduling of Meetings
Reminder about "Zoom settings"- what to turn on when you're on Zoom.us.
At this point, all Zoom meetings should be scheduled and joined through Canvas to ensure security and ease of navigation for students.
Zoom Expectations Sheet (Linked HERE):
Our PE department shared our Zoom expectations with all students and had them complete a Google form indicating their parent/guardian has also read the expectations. It would be helpful if teachers also included this sheet in their resources on Canvas.
Remember:
- Teachers can work 1:1 on Zoom with a student if needed as long as there is a clear educational purpose.
- Teachers can assign students to breakout rooms during a live session. Make sure you have referenced the Zoom expectations with your students and that they know they can ask questions and ask for help whenever needed. Make it a practice to randomly pop in on breakout rooms to monitor progress and to check in on students.
- Teachers can ask an Instructional Assistant to work with students in a Zoom breakout room as long as the IA is not working 1:1 in a breakout room with the student.
