TCEA 2017 Sessions
Last week was the annual Texas Computer Educators Association conference in Austin, TX. I love this conference and learn so much every year.
This year I presented two sessions that were very well received and I wanted to share those sessions with our school community.
The first session was called Librarian Superheroes in a Google World. In this hands-on workshop we explored Google tools that go beyond Google search for helping the students find and manage information as they research. Most of these tools work beautifully on the iPad.
The second session was called Why Do I Need a Library? I Have an iPad. This session was part of the Librarian Academy at TCEA. Although the title is rather snarky, the objective of the session was to challenge librarian thinking about changing their practice as the information delivery method (print to digital) changes. This session includes app suggestions for working towards a Future Ready Library based on the Future Ready movement.
If you want more information on any of these tools, I am here to help!

Unicorn Shout-Out : Jennifer Thompson
To give her students an idea of what a real Crime Scene Investigator does, her students participated in a Google Hangout with Shannon Shafer, a Senior Crime Scene Analyst with Travis County. She was able to give them some background her job and how the real job is very different from the role you see on television. She also answered their questions about her experiences, the challenges, and rewards of the job.
Technology truly flattens the world and allows people to connect in ways they never have before.
Remember we are here to help!
