Update on 5th Grade Camp Open House
Due to unforeseen circumstances, we will need to change our 5th Grade Camp Open House from September 17, to September 24 (Monday) from 5-7 pm. I am very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you and your school community. Please make sure parents and teachers are aware of the change.
The Open House is not mandatory. It is for students and parents to take an informal tour of the main lodge and dorms. I will be here to answer questions if they arise. Thank you.

Second Step Announcement!
Parents, this week your children focused on the second step lesson below. Please take a moment to talk with your children about how they made safe choices at school.
One rule we have at Keith Elementary School is "Be Safe." Safe actions keep everyone's bodies from being hurt. When we act in safe ways, we keep our hands to ourselves and don't use them to touch others in hurtful ways. When we use safe words, we make sure nobody's feelings are hurt. Safe words are kind and respectful. This week, think about how you can act and speak in safe ways in the classroom, hallway, and lunchroom and out at recess.
Next week, our focus will be on Being Respectful. We will review the following with your children when they return to school on Monday.
Being Respectful:
One rule we have here at Keith Elementary School is "Be Respectful." Being respectful helps everyone feel welcome and safe. When we act respectfully, we listen carefully to each other, help each other, and try to understand how someone else feels. When we speak respectfully, we use friendly words and say please and thank you. We don't call other people names. This week, think about how you can act and speak in respectful ways in the classroom, hallway, lunchroom, and out at recess.

Keith Fun Run!
Hello Keith Dragon Families!
The excitement is growing for our annual Fun Run to be held on Friday, September 28th. This year, students are again able to earn prizes for the donations they collect and they get a prize for every level of donation. And we have some AMAZING prizes this year! However, prizes aren’t the ultimate goal. The Fun Run is the PTA’s main fundraiser for the year. While we earn money on Book Fair, Pizza Kits, and Box Tops, the majority of the money comes from this single, community event. Unlike the other fundraisers that give us a portion of the sales – 100% of cash donations and 95% of credit donations we raise through the Fun Run are put right back into YOUR school! So, if you haven’t already, please remember to send in your child’s donation envelope on one of our collection dates September 14th, 21st, 24th, or on our final collection date Friday October 5th. We are excited to offer an electronic method of donating! Here is the online link for donating:

“How much to give” is a very personal decision for you and your family, but please keep in mind that even if it’s just a few dollars – it counts. Our goal is for every family to contribute something. Each dollar helps to support the programs, events and items we provide to enrich your child’s experience at Keith Elementary. This includes classroom enhancements, needs, supplies, Book Fair, Field Day, Popsicles with the Principal, 5th Grade Celebration, Kindergarten RoundUp, Reflections Art Program, and much, much more! We thank you for your support.
REMINDER: DONATIONS ARE DUE BY FRIDAY, October 5th (final collection day)
Thank you,

Math Club
Math Club Registration Open! Are you looking for STEM activities for your child? Would you like your child to have a more positive attitude towards Math? How about developing critical thinking? Math Club is the answer! Math Club takes place on Wednesday mornings from 8:00AM to 8:50AM, beginning October 24th and runs through March. This program is open to all K-5 students and introduces them to interactive, problem-solving and critical thinking GAMES through the Mathematics Pentathlon program (MathPentath.org). The students are placed into three groups by grade: K/1st, 2nd/3rd and 4th/5th. Please fill out and return the attached form to register your child, spaces are limited! Stop by the Math Club table at the Popsicles on the Playground Event to learn more.
Math Club Parent Volunteers Needed! In order to run Math Club, parent help is needed to teach and oversee the games in class (training will be provided). This is a great opportunity to become more involved in the school and to inspire the next generation of problem solvers! Your time and dedication will make a huge impact on the success of this program! Please contact Mary Beth Johnson at mbjohnson@ymail.com for more information.

PTA Reflections Contest 2018-2019
Please be sure to take some time to get creative this summer! If you have any questions, please reach out to Keith Elementary PTA Reflections Chair:
Kate Tomasik

Now that summer vacation is about to start, it’s a great time to start looking for inspiration for your projects! Start thinking about the people in your world who are heroes. Are they someone whose job is to help people? Are they someone who volunteers in the community? Are they kids helping grown-ups? Or grown-ups helping kids? Are they people helping animals? Or animals helping people?
We can’t wait to see how those heroes inspire you through the arts! Review the current standing rules at the Michigan PTA Reflections website: https://www.michiganpta.org/page/Reflections201718
We’ll have finalized rules provided later for the 2018-19 school year. For more info, please contact Keith PTSA Reflections Chair, Kate Tomasik, at keithelementaryptareflections@gmail.com
