On the Side of Hope!
Students Experiences
- A thriving student experience comes from an environment that engages and connects students to each other and with staff.
- In LISD, we know students thrive when they are engaged in their learning and feel a sense of belonging in our schools.
- When students are provided enriching opportunities outside the classroom, they will find success not only in school but in their lives beyond our hallways.

More about Students Experiences Character Traits Hoof Prints and Positive Referral Hoof Prints
Each week I will be looking into the boxes outside the counselors offices downstairs and upstairs and I will be selecting some students Hoofprints. I will call the students during the week and bring them to my office. What the office? Yes the office but as a positive referral instead of a behavior referral. I will call their parents telling them about their positive referral. I will also announce their names on the announcements.
I realize that I know the names of the students that are constantly in my office due to behavior but we need to recognize the students that constantly make good choices.
Please keep using the Hoof Prints and recognize the Ponies across the campus.
**** WE WILL ALSO CONTINUE WITH THE STUDENTS OF THE MONTH. THE SURVEY TO REFER YOUR STUDENT OF THE MONTH FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY WILL BE IN NEXT WEEK'S PONY NEWS.
NEU Connect and Powerful Symbolism!
Remember to continue practicing your grade level chant as well as you college chants. Transitions from one place to the other is a great time to practice chants. Take every opportunity to talk to the students about college.
For example, choose a reading passage or book related to college. Create math problems using college names.
We will have a NEU Connect Webinar with Mr. Lopez soon.
A Minute with the LASes
Equity is always an interesting topic, especially when we are trying to close the gap for our Bil/ESL, African American students, or those in situation of poverty.
Let's try something new, let's have a Coffee Talk!
- Go to the Padlet below and choose one out of the three articles.
- Share a reflection, you might also want to comment on another people's thought.
- Go to the right upper corner of the article post, and click on the three dots. Connect your reflection to the article.
We are curious about the patterns, trend of thoughts and also the different point of views that we can discover from our reflections.
Thanks for participating!
*****************PARTICIPANTS WILL RECEIVE A JEANS PASS AND THEIR NAMES WILL GO INTO A RAFFLE FOR A GIFT CARD!
Resource Round-Up
The Poetry Friday Anthology For Science by Sylvia Vardell and Janet Wong is a perfect resource to make this happen. It contains poems leveled by grade that cover all science topics. They also include ideas on how to best utilize the poems in class, if you choose not to use them in a poetry station.
We only have one copy on campus, but you are more than welcome to come to the Think Spot and select poems that you may need. We can make copies for you to utilize in your classroom.
