Coming up...
What an amazing night it was last Thursday for our International Night. Thank you so much to all of you who came to support the evening and to see the culmination of our music programme for 2022. I just loved seeing each year group play their hearts out and then to see such a wealth of cultural dance. Thank you so much to all those families who donated food for us to sell, to the PTA for coordinating the evening and to our staff who did so much. It was indeed a special night.
We are certainly in end-of-year mode with lots of events taking place in the school over the last week and with a busy week ahead. The year 4 students had a fabulous sleepover at school on Friday, ably supported by a number of parents; special thanks to Gaylene Hewlett for all her work in preparing for and running the whole experience. Our year 7 & 8 students had a really inspiring careers day on Wednesday with the students hearing about career choices from people in our community.
Our junior students had luck with the weather for their junior athletics this morning, which finished with the last house event for the year; the house relay. Congratulations to Snell house for taking the win, and to SNELL who take out the house competition for 2022. You are off to the movies on Monday.
Final reports will be published on HERO on Friday. There are instructions on how to print these at the top of the Learner profile page. You will also be able to see which class your child will be in for 2023 on Monday through HERO. Friday morning we have our prizegiving assemblies. Please note that these are by invitation only. We do ask for ALL students who have earnt badges or awards in the past to wear their badge on Friday. It is always great to see those who have been celebrated in the past.
What a delight as we ventured behind the hall to our māra kai just recently to see the sunflowers Snell planted on their house day last term looking so gorgeous. Such a great way to brighten one's day.
A reminder that we finish school for the year at 1.30pm on Friday 16th December. The 2023 dates can be found on the website. Our ringing out ceremony (for students and staff leaving the school this year) will start as close to 1.00pm as we can. Everyone is most welcome to join us for this special school tradition – Alison
Update on the building
It has been rather frustrating to see no progress on the replacement of the Year 4 and 5 balconies and stairs. There has been an issue with services to the hall coming through right where the columns to hold the balcony were to go. Adjustments have had to be made by the structural engineer, which took longer than expected. Everything has been approved once again and the columns ordered. We are hopeful they will be installed early in January and the remaining work done for the start of the 2023 school year. I will send out an update as we near the return to school later in January.

Congratulations to all Koru students who placed in our junior athletics today. What a special morning and with such great help from our senior students. Wear your ribbons with pride everyone!
