DAIS Nursing Office Updates
The DAIS Nurses are looking forward to the start of another fabulous year at the Intermediate Building. We would like to share the follow information:
- Each student will have their height and weight checked and recorded. A BMI letter will be sent home later in the school year.
- Each student will have a vision screening completed. A vision referral will be mailed home to any student who does not pass the screening.
- Any 6th grade student who does not have a completed physical exam on file will have a state required scoliosis screening completed in the spring.
- Students are permitted to bring cough drops to school via the bus. However, students must bring the cough drops as well as written permission to use the cough drops to their community nurse. The cough drops will be stored and distributed to the student upon request in the community nurse’s office.
- Our school physician has provided us with Tylenol and Ibuprofen orders for all students in the Intermediate building. The dose of medication is weight based. We will call a parent/guardian before administering to obtain permission and to also verify that the student hasn’t received a prior dose of medication.
- All medications (prescription and over-the counter) require a doctor’s order or signature on the Dallastown School District mediation administration page. These medications must be taken to and from school by a parent/guardian or designated adult.
- Parents/Guardians of students taking daily medications will receive a phone call when their child has 3-5 days’ worth of medication left in the nurse’s office. If you need earlier notification, please alert you child’s community nurse.
- We are happy to provide illness and injury assessments, as well as basic first aid; however, we are unable to provide you with illness or injury diagnoses.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your community nurse!

Attention 6th Grade Parents/Guardians:
The state of Pennsylvania requests that students in 6th grade have a physical exam completed. You will receive a letter in April 2019 explaining this request as well as the PA Physical Exam form. We kindly ask that you return the physical exam form at your earliest convenience.
Additionally, students entering 7th grade for the 20-21 school year will need a Tdap and Meningococcal vaccine. If your child has already received these immunizations and/or receives these immunizations during the school year, please provide your child’s community nurse with a copy of the immunization record so that we can up-date our records.
If you have any questions about the physicals or immunizations, please don’t hesitate to contact me at beth.boyd@dallastown.net. Thanks so much for your cooperation in this matter.
Sincerely,
Beth M Boyd, BSN, RN, CSN
