Notes from the teacher
- Today is the official first day of fall. It is my favorite season, so I did a happy dance! With fall comes RAIN. Probably lots of it. Please be sure to send your student with a rain coat on rainy days. If you need assistance in getting one, please feel free to contact me or the Family Connections Center.
- Our reading testing day was moved to September 26th. I will be reading with as many kids as possible that day! Once I have read with your student, I will send a letter home with information for you. If I can't get to them on Monday, it will be done by Friday. There will be a guest teacher in our class while I do this on Monday, so please try to take some time to talk about respect with your student on Sunday. It is the virtue of the month and they are working very hard on showing respect - what a great group of kiddos! Since the guest teacher is on a Monday, I always find it's helpful to chat about it the night before, just so they aren't caught off guard! Thank you for helping me!
We are learning...
I can describe how a character is feeling using evidence from the story.
In reading we are looking at text evidence in the writing and in the pictures to help us better understand characters.
I can write words with short i.
In phonics we are working on the short i sound and reviewing words that have that sound in them like pig, fish, big, and others!
Math
I can understand how numbers are put together as parts and wholes.
In math we are exploring how numbers are made of parts. For example 2 and 3 makes five. We are then translating that into equations: 2+3=5. we are working with numbers up to 10 and also work on our math facts.
Writing
I can use a writing web to organize details about an animal.
This week we started our first writing unit! We are researching animals and writing an expository paragraph about them. We will begin with shared writing as students work towards independence!
