How It Works
A Smartphone-based Optical Character Recognition (OCR) app scans food purchase receipts to build a database of the items, prices, and locations. Uses for this technology include:
Mapping food deserts, food prices by location, and accessibility.
Comparing products for price, health (based on USDA database), and social impact.
Building shopping lists - planning ahead helps to make only the intended purchases.
Group purchasing and ride-sharing within the community would be encouraged.
