2008 Election
This election was between Barack Obama and John McCain. Obama ran on the Democratic ballot and McCain ran on the Republican ballot. This election was fairly close, but Barack Obama did end up winning over McCain. Obama's running mate was Joe Biden and they are still in the White House till this day, on their second term. He officially defeated McCain on November 5th, 2008.
Haiti Earthquake
This earthquake shook the whole world. By this I mean everyone was talking about this 7.0 magnitude that destroyed Haiti. This earthquake occurred on January 12th, 2010 and it killed 100 of thousands of people. This earthquake wasn't just a one day thing, their was aftershocks, which are like mini earthquakes that hit Haiti 532 times. The U.S. did help out the country with supplies and even rebuilding.
The Movie Avatar is Released
This is a science film in 2009 produced by James Cameron. This movie was very famous money, wise they profited about 2 billion dollars. In the box office they made about 2.4 billion dollars which is insane. This movie will forever be remembered as a great production.
The Oil Spill
This is event ended as the worst environmental disaster in history. This oil spill occurred in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20th, 2010. The company that spilled the oil was BP and it was estimated that it spilled 100,000 barrels a day. This killed many. many animals and it had an impact on the humans as well, the couldn't swim in the ocean any longer. This took billions of dollars to clean up and BP was sued for a ton of money.
Osama Bin Laden
On May 2nd, 2011, Navy Seals marched into Osama Bin Laden's hideout in a secret mission to kill him. He was killed at his house in Pakistan. This was a huge step for America because he was the one behind the 9/11attacks. His body is of in the ocean somewhere, probably eaten by a shark by now.
2012 Election
This election was between Barack Obama on the Democratic Ballot (He was running for his second term) and Mitt Romney was on the Republican ballot. Barack Obama was determined he could beat Romney and he did just that. Obama received a tougher competition against Romney rather than McCain, voting wise. On November 5th, 2012, Obama was elected for his second term.
Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami
On March 11th, 2011 a monster of a earthquake hit Japan. Its magnitude went up to 9.0 on a scale of 10. This earthquake lasted an astonishing 6 minutes and cause a tsunami to form. This was a terrible tragedy and the U.S did help with the damage and supplies.
Steve Jobs Dies
On October 5th, 2011, Steve Jobs passed away. He was easily one of my favorite innovators in the world. He helped create Apple, a phone company and creates computers. I have two Apple devices and I use them everyday, so he, technically played an important role in many Americans lives.
