DESCRIPTION OF THE MODULE

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to help improve reading and critical thinking skills in our students. It will provide teachers and prospective teachers with tools to use and techniques to apply in their classes Upon completion, attendees should be able to comprehend and analyze the reading process as well as manage reading difficulties in their students.
METHODOLOGY: Attendees will analyze theoretical considerations about the topics provided by linguists and theorists in the field of English Language Teaching.
There will be practical assignments to be solved. Presentations and videos will be discussed in chats, forums and other interactive spaces on campus.
Attendees are expected to adopt a highly participative and cooperative attitude according to the new paradigm of virtual learning environments, so that meaningful learning takes place.
This methodology of work lies on the belief that prior knowledge is to be recovered and should serve as a basis for the construction of a new conceptual framework.
There will be a one-to-one relation between attendee and tutor, so that the development of critical thinking and the emergence of a reflective attitude towards teaching are ensured.
OBJECTIVES: By the end of the course, attendees will be able to:
- raise consciousness in relation to the reading process;
- get acquainted with reading strategies and techniques;
- strengthen students’ self-esteem by bettering their performance in reading.
