What's New in Room 182

Mrs. Peters' 3rd Grade * February 5, 2016

3rd Grade, Part 2 !

It's hard to believe that Tuesday kicked off the second semester!! There's so much to celebrate and plan for...

First, please be sure to find your student's report card (posted last night) by logging into the Parent Portal of the website or EPS app. Make a list of any questions, concerns, or celebrations to share on Conference Day!

Second, it's so important that we meet in the next few weeks about your student's progress and goals. If you have not already done so, conference sign-up info is below and will be e-mailed again on Monday morning.

Your partnership and commitment is always appreciated,

Mrs. Peters

Time is running out... Sign up to be a Mystery Reader TODAY!

Slots are filling up fast, though we still have plenty of room for those of you a little more shy to sign up! Guessing Friday's Mystery Reader and listening to new voices and stories is SUCH an exciting part of our week (Just ask your 3rd grader!). Please consider signing up to spend just a small part of your Friday with us!! You can find more information and a sign-up page here. Hope to see you soon!!

IPad Reminders

  • For now, I request that they split their time between their weekly prefix on Spelling City (app or website) and multiplication fact fluency on either MobyMax or IXL on Tuesday nights.
  • Please let me know if you need a new copy of your student's log-ins for the apps/sites we require.
  • You will need to connect to home or a public wi-fi server. (EPS' i-Learn server will not reach your home!)
  • You are welcome to charge the iPad up at night, if you have the appropriate charger at home. iPads will come home with plenty of power for the night's activities, however.

Focus on the Curriculum

ELA

  • Weekly Prefix: mal- (bad or badly, wrong, ill)
Time to restore routine...

Please make sure your student is completing their Sort & Glue Matching Activity in their Learning Log on Monday night, so that they have plenty of time to learn their new words.

Also, they must complete five Spelling City activities at home (via web or free app) during the week to practice.

  • Compare and Contrast

This week we will practice using Double Bubble maps to compare and contrast characters, settings, themes, and events in our books. Here's a review of the strategy with a little extra practice. For students who enjoy books by the same author or in the same series, consider discussing similarities and differences they notice in their nightly reading, too!

Math

  • Chapter 8: Fractions

This has been such a fun unit, but alas, it's time to assess and move on! Our Chapter 8 test will be Thursday. This week's Weekly Review will be a great way to review many of the skills we've learned. (As always, let me know if you'd like any suggestions for extra practice!)

Homework will be "Weekly Review #16", sent home Monday and due Friday.

Friendship Celebration - Friday, Feb. 12

Students brought home celebration details and a class list on Tuesday. Please remember that if you wish to send valentines or small treats, all students should be included. Also, we are a peanut-free classroom.
