Great Movie!

This weekend I went to see the movie Monuments Men. It was a great movie especially if you like learning about history sans textbook! The movie is based on the true story of how seven museum directors and curators were sent into Germany to rescue artwork such as paintings and sculptures from the Nazis who stole them during World War II--all while the war was taking place. These men risked their lives to save art that defined culture spanning nearly 1000 years.

I remember studying about World War II in school and through the stories my grandfather would tell, but I had no idea that art was stolen and the story of how that part of history had been saved. It makes you think how little or how much we would know about Renoirs, Rembrandts, or Michelangelos in our generation if the art had not been rescued. It was a thought-provoking movie on so many different levels.

  • OFFICER PHIL PROGRAM: The Officer Phil program will be held this Thursday morning for preK-gr. 4. Please have your students seated in the gym no later than 8:30 a.m. so the program can start on time. The presenter has multiple programs in different schools so the schedule is tight. As in the past, this program will focus on safety for students. Tammy has counted out booklets to go along with the program and those are ready for you on the table in the office.
  • ALTERNATE SPECIALS FOR THURSDAY: Art for Erexson's class will start right after the Officer Phil program instead of 8:30 a.m. and Music for Bollman's class will be moved to 2:00 p.m.
  • PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES: Please email me your conference schedule by Wednesday morning. Also, let me know if you have any conferences that you would like me to be a part of too.
  • MAIN IDEA STRATEGIES: Glad to see staff members utilizing the strategies we reviewed in our main idea training! The more these strategies are used, the more routine they will become for students and the greater the impact on student achievement we will see.
