Use structures during instruction for students to feel a sense of belonging — talk and share
Greet your students at the door everyday
- when students are greeted at the door everyday on task behavior increases by 45% to 75% during the first 10 minutes
REMEMBER.....Every child needs a CHAMPION in order to be ONE! Make the difference in ALL your students:)
Assessment
Check for understanding: Make sure you time is embedded in every lesson to check for understanding. (this should be happening every 10-15 minutes)
Quadrant D
Essential components in your Lesson
- Decomposing your standards: Make sure you teach to your standards not to a guide. You must identify what your essential standards are for your grade level. This is PLC question 1. What do we want our students to know and be able to do? If you have planned your essential standards as a team then you are meeting question 1.
- Opening of a lesson: this is your "hook." By what you say in the first minute of your lesson can make or break the lesson experience for the learner.
- Closing: This is vital for student success. You want to make sure you have assessed ALL students throughout the "meat" of the lesson so you know who will need to be retaught. REMEMBER the video from yesterday.....the teacher strategically had two students wrap up the lesson by modeling. If you have assessed students throughout the lesson you are able to know what direction you will go tomorrow.
