Third Grade Update

November 10-30

What are we learning this week?

Reading: We will learn about cause and effect relationships and will compare/ contrast various stories, events, and characters.

Writing: We will complete our imaginative narrative and will begin the expository (non-fiction) writing process.

Math: We will learn about expanded notation, measuring area, and will solve problems by collecting, organizing, displaying, and interpreting data. We will continue to practice solving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division word problems.

Science: We will plan and implement investigations (by collecting, organizing, interpreting, analyzing data). We will continue to research Planets and understand the relationship between the sun, Earth and moon.

Social Studies: We will be working with maps and globes to learn scale, grids, latitude, longitude, symbols, legends, and compass rose.

Dates to Know & Reminders

November 12: Report Cards and Data Binders sent home

November 12-19: Canned Food Drive

November 15: Fit Family 5K with Myers Middle School 10 am

November 24-28: No School/ Thanksgiving Holiday

December 1: PLC Monday for third grade; bring a lunch and wear athletic shoes

December 4: Barnes & Noble Night 6-8 p.m.

December 5: Wear green or red

December 8: Progress Reports sent home

December 12: Third grade Nutcracker Field Trip (permission slips coming home soon; parents are not permitted to attend due to lack of space in the auditorium)

December 19: Third grade Holiday Party (more info to come)


  • Parents must sign their child's agenda EVERY night and Communication Binders must be returned each day.
  • Each day students should bring: snack, water bottle, jacket (if needed), binder, homework/ reading log, and an open mind- ready to learn!
