Happy Holidays To All!
As I reflect on the school year this far I am reminded of how much we have accomplished. Thank you all for your wonderful support and dedication! Maite Iturri
2016-2017 so far...
1. All students are being instructed using Readers and Writers Workshop,
2. All students are being monitored in reading progress using the A-Z assessment,
3. We Ran 9,000 laps in the jog a thon,
4. Our Halloween Carnival raised $2,500,
5. Our EV Student Leadership has sponsored a crazy sock day, candles for the holiday workshop and the can food drive,
6. 20 board members from local foundations visited El Verano to tour our campus and learn more about our work,
7. We successfully passed Measure E as a community,
8. We received a $5,000 grant for Breakfast and Books and family literacy education from iread Sonoma County,
9. We donated 22 turkeys from the Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa,
10. Teachers are receiving excellent professional development in the teaching of reading from Teachers College in NYC and our own EV staff,
11. The PTO donated $20,000 to purchase books for our classrooms,
12. Our student book flood gave away 4,000 books to students,
13. Plein Air donated $10,000 for art classes and supplies this year,
14. We completed our first ever Fence Mural from ArtEscape
15. Teachers are working together doing peer to peer observations and talking about instruction in their grade levels,
16. La Luz and the EV Family Resource Center are serving families with case management, leadership and education. We offer over 20 classes for parents,
17. EV was highlighted in California Teachers Association magazine. They have a circulation of 300,000 teachers and administrators in California,
18. Parent leaders held the first ever candidates forum for our local election,
19. Our web site has been updated,
20. The Rotary Club gave our 3rd graders new dictionaries,
21. Transportation and Sonoma Fire Department taught children about safety in an emergency,
21. Children are reading more than ever and want to talk to their friends about the books they are reading,
22. Valley Vibes Orchestra has performed publicly 30 times during the 2016 calendar year,
23. Our community mural was completed. This mural highlights the beauty of our neighborhood. Thank you d.s. Gordon,
24. Parent Cafes have hosted over 40 parents who walked through classrooms to learn about reading instruction,
25. "Learn with Me" program started with high school mentors and EV students after school on Wednesdays,
26. After school enrichment classes including: art, dance, athletic club happen every week,
27. Our preschool serves 48 tiny learners preparing them for kindergarten,
28. EV showed its community strength by showing up in the Vintage Festival Parade.. 100 strong,
29. Families attended Back to School Night and Parent Teacher Conferences because they are interested and fully supportive of their children's education,
30. EV has over 350 volunteers on campus, at events, supporting non profit events and most importantly supporting their children's learning!
