Goal for the Week: Goal Setting
Happy New Year! As we enter the new year, what are your goals and resolutions?
Campus Goals: For the second semester, we will continue to work toward accomplishing our CIP goals (click here to see CIP). Team leaders will spend part of their meeting Monday afternoon reviewing progress toward our campus goals. My personal goals for myself and our campus include being more intentional about integrating Portrait of a Graduate language into our staff meetings, newsletters, and discussions; establishing tech nights for families(see below for more information); focusing on integrating reading and writing workshop (more details and learning to come during PLCs and our February professional learning day); and extending and enriching for our all of our students.
Professional Goals: Take some time over the coming days to revisit your PLP. What goals have you already reached? What goals do you need to add now that you know your students and their needs? What goals to do you have to work on your professional growth? For myself, I am continuing my professional growth through taking doctoral classes through Lamar University as well as staying connected through my Twitter PLN and reading.
Personal Goals: Come January 1 and everywhere you look there are ads about losing weight and getting in shape. Buy this device to track, this equipment to build, this outfit to look good while tracking and building. It's hard to get in a workout when trying to decipher all the gadgets and gizmos! If you have a goal of moving a little more during 2016, then Fit in Five may be the challenge for you.
- Step one: Sign up here. You can sign up as an individual or a team of five.
- Step two: Find a tracking device. Your smart phone, Fitbit, pedometer, or other tracking device is GREAT!
- Step three: Record your steps each workday, Monday - Friday, starting from the moment you wake up until you go to sleep that evening.
- Step four: Post the numbers each week. Form coming.
- Step five: Enjoy prizes and a healthy competition over the next five months with the BEST staff! Happy tracking!
Thank you for all you do as we continue to build an excellent school together!
Remember to... Check this list, check it twice!

Great job adhering to the Energy Shut Down Check List! Tonya and I checked each room on Friday afternoon. We appreciate the extra time and energy you spent preparing your classrooms for the break. We'll let you know our score as soon as we receive it from Kent.
Thankful for two weeks with family and friends! Glad to welcome back our students and staff this week!
Thank you Rebecca, Al, Alecia, Sandy, Becca, Nancy, Caroline, Jennifer, Raschel, Susan, and Abbey for representing BES and serve our community at the GRACE Christmas Cottage!
Thank you to all who joined us for Breakfast with Santa! We had a great turnout of families making memories, eating pancakes, and visiting with Santa! Thank you Jennifer, Wendy, Jeannette, Tiffany, Lauren, Alecia, Lisa, Sue, Abbey, and Tonya.
Thank you for promoting and supporting Hour of Code! As a district, we saw an unprecedented level of participation this year with 320 teachers participating in grades K-8.
- 2013-2014: 42 teachers
- 2014-2015: 100+ teachers
- 2015-2016: 289 elementary teachers, 31 middle school teachers
In addition to the hands-on digital coding activities provided by the instructional technology team, many teachers offered additional experiences such as guest speakers or video conferences with programming professionals or high school CS students and many campuses participated in school-wide digital and unplugged activities.
