Craters
What are Craters?
Craters are dents in the moon that are caused by floating objects in space. The moon is buried with craters because it has no atmosphere and atmospheres protect planets from destructive things in space like comets, meteorites and maybe asteroids. Craters are HUGE.
The amazing Aitken basin measures 2,500 kilometers (1,600 miles) across and is the largest, deepest and oldest basin on the Moon.
The Atmosphere
Facts
The moon has no atmosphere so that's why it has a bunch of Craters. That's why earth has no Craters because it has an atmosphere. An atmosphere is the envelope of gases surrounding earth or another planet. The atmosphere helps protect our planet from floating objects in space that could do damage to our planet.
