5/11 Substitute to Accompany students on Cabrillo Marine Aquarium Field Trip

Unfortunately, I have school business and a training that conflict with our Cabrillo Marine Aquarium field trip on 5/11. I have discussed this matter with Ms. Apodaca and she will be assigning a reliable substitute to accompany the class on their field trip. Ms. June Kiesel (our teacher's aide whom our students are familiar with) will also be accompanying the students in addition to two parent chaperones from our class. Ms. Fu's class will also be on the same field trip. I will be preparing the students for this, so they understand what to expect. I completely understand if this change would alter how you feel about your child attending the field trip. If so, please feel free to submit a new permission slip. Students who do not go on the field trip will be placed in another kinder class for the day.

Is anyone able to lend a helping hand tomorrow after school? I would GREATLY appreciate it! I've made a special request with the LEARNs afterschool program coordinator for them to use another classroom tomorrow afternoon, so we can have volunteers help prepare for Open House! This will be the only day this week they are NOT in the classroom after school besides Thursday. (My goal is for the bulk of the work to be done before Thursday to prevent feeling rushed.)

Brenda informed me that we haven't had any volunteers sign up. I know everyone is terribly busy with various responsibilities and hate to be a bother, but if anyone is able to come help at least for some time (15 minutes, 30 minutes, etc.) it will make a BIG difference! I will truly appreciate any form of help. :)

If we can get enough volunteers to help with the items tomorrow, the prep on Thursday will be much simpler and smoother! With more helping hands, we can work more efficiently! Please sign-up online if you are available--thank you very much!

We need help with the following:

Monday, 5/2 (1:30-3:30)

1. Tidy/clean up patio/garden (dust up dirt, throw away old planters)

2. Wipe down all furniture and surfaces (take off pencil marks, marker marks, etc.)

3. Arrange toys/books

4. Change desk name plates

Thurs., 5/5 (12:30-1:30) Preparations

- Put up remaining classwork/projects

- wipe down any students' desks that need extra wiping

- wipe down any furniture and surfaces that need extra wiping

THANK YOU SO MUCH for your support in all that you do!

aluminum cans needed!!!

We will be going to Cabrillo Marine Aquarium on 5/11! Admission is free when we bring a trash bag full of aluminum cans to promote recycling. If you have any aluminum cans at home, please rinse them and have your child bring them to school! We have less than a month to collect a trash bag full. Thank you for your help!

Khan Academy (OPTIONAL)

As a supplemental resource, I will be assigning Math work from khanacademy.org. This is a wonderful resource for students who would like more practice with the concepts taught at school or would like more challenging Math work.

The website adapts the questions based on each child's level. The more questions students answer correctly, the harder the problems will get. The program will also make problems easier if students are struggling with correctly answering the problems.

Please see below on how to sign up. This information will also be posted on our class site under "Parent Resources".

  1. Sign up at khanacademy.org (or log in with their existing accounts)
  2. Visit khanacademy.org/coaches
  3. There, in the "Add a coach" field, enter the class code XEEF4D
