Washington MS February '23 Update
It's a Great Day to be a Junior Husky!
From the Main Office
Dear Washington Middle School Students, Families, and Community!
Welcome to the second semester! After taking personal leave during the first half of the year, I am so delighted to be back, and to be a part of our amazing learning community again. I welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in education and look forward to working with you and your children.
I am committed to continuing to foster resilience, perseverance, grit, empathy, and the ability to communicate effectively in diverse learning partnerships which will undoubtedly help our students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
It was wonderful to see how staff have continued to embed critical thinking and collaboration across all content areas. And how the students have grown and matured in their learning experience.
I look forward to seeing you all soon during our fall and spring events.
Principal Hunt

Fuel Our Teachers: Coffee and Snacks Wednesdays
We would like to provide coffee & snacks in the morning on some (perhaps all!) Wednesdays to support our wonderful teachers. The PTSA can fund the coffee, but we need volunteers to deliver it to teachers and staff.
Volunteering at Washington Middle School
PTSA Volunteers Needed to Support School Events
The PTSA hopes to be able to support other events this year, some of which have been popular in the past. We need volunteers to provide ideas, lead, and support these events. They include: (1) teachers appreciation week starting May 8th week, (2) counselors week starting Feb 6th, (3) 8th grade promotion, (4) PTSA fundraising / annual fund, and (5) officers for 2023-2024 β all positions will be open. If you can help with any of these, please respond to info@wmsptsa.com
π LIBRARY LOUNGE
Library Fines and Book Returns
I love that students have checked out so many books this year! Checking out books also means there are some books that need to be returned. We currently have 104 books overdue and 312 books that are so overdue they have been marked "lost." This translates to over $14,000 in missing books!
If you have the book that is overdue or "lost," you can bring it in anytime to turn it in or renew it. If it is really lost and you don't have it anymore, you can pay the fine on School Pay. If you aren't able to pay the fine due to financial hardship, please contact your counselor to make other arrangements.

Can You Say 'Excelente'?
Great news for Spanish learners in Profe. Martinez Lopez's class! The students have been working hard on Duolingo and it's paid off - they've been recognized with some awesome swag!
Duolingo, the popular language-learning platform, took notice of the hard work and dedication of these students and decided to reward them for their outstanding achievements. From practicing vocabulary to perfecting their pronunciation, these students have put in the effort and it's paid off.
Big congratulations to Professor Martinez Lopez and her fantastic students! Their dedication to learning a new language and earning high school credit is inspiring. Keep up the great work! Β‘Buen trabajo!
Special thanks to Washington caregiver J.P. Kang for recording the Winter Concert and sharing with our community.
