Summer Enrichment Programs - SURVEY
In addition to our regularly-scheduled summer programs, including Extended School Year (ESY) for students with special needs and subsidized child care, Glendale Unified School District is working to create an on-campus summer enrichment program filled with expanded learning opportunities for students. Our summer enrichment program will be available for all Glendale Unified elementary students at no cost to families!
To help us finalize our summer schedule, please complete our short interest survey by Sunday, May 2, to let us know which weeks you might be interested in having your student participate in an on-campus summer enrichment program. This survey is to inform our planning. It is not a commitment form. Please complete a separate interest survey for each student you would like to enroll. Only select weeks for which your student will be able to attend all five days of the summer enrichment program.
Program Details:
- The Glendale Unified summer enrichment program will provide fun, on-campus expanded learning opportunities for students in grades TK-6.
- Existing programs, such as ESY and subsidized child care, will continue to be available for qualifying students. The District will also offer targeted academic support for select students. Families of qualifying students will receive additional details in the coming weeks.
- The Glendale Unified summer enrichment program will be offered at no cost to families.
- Public Health guidelines, including mask wearing, physical distancing, daily health screening, and frequent hand washing, will continue to be enforced.
- Students will attend the Glendale Unified summer enrichment program at their home school or a school nearby. Location may be subject to the number of students interested.
- Families who qualify for subsidized child care must participate in our summer enrichment program in order to continue to qualify for services for the 2021-22 school year. Qualifying families will be contacted by Glendale Unified Child Development and Child Care with more information.

Mountain Avenue Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week May 3rd - 7th
Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week is the time that we set aside for Mountain Avenue students and families to show their appreciation and gratitude to our wonderful Mountain Avenue teachers and staff.
This year we are asking our Mountain Avenue students to upload a photo of themselves holding a sign thanking teachers and staff members.
Go to this link to upload your special photo:
Photos will be shared during the May 7, 2021 Flag Ceremony.
Photo submissions are due by Wednesday, May 5th.
Our teachers and staff are putting in a tremendous amount of effort and care in creating hybrid learning schedules with dynamic content, ensuring that all of our children are continuing to learn. This is the time to let our teachers and staff know that we appreciate them and that we are grateful for the love and care they give to our children.

SEL Skill of the Week
This week Playworks is featuring a fun game that will help you identify problems and use problem-solving skills and creative thinking to solve it.
Social-Emotional Focus:
Identifying Problems – Recognizing when you face a challenge.
Simplified Game Instructions
# of people to play: 6+
Best for ages: 6+
Setup/Teaching Time: 5-7 minutes
Equipment needed: None
Goal: To practice problem-solving and creative thinking skills.
Before You Start:
- Explain and give a few examples of how to create a rhythm with hands and body, such as clapping, snapping, and dancing.
- Define rhythm captain: this person will be the one to lead the group in rhythmic movements.
- Define rhythm detective: this person will be the one to guess who is leading the group in rhythmic movements.
How to Play:
- The leader should designate who will be the rhythm detective for the first round. This student will turn away from their camera or cover their eyes so they cannot see anyone.
- After the first detective has turned around or covered their eyes, the leader will select one player to be the rhythm captain. Keep this person a secret, you don’t want the detective to know who they are!
- When selecting the rhythm captain, write their name down and hold it up to the screen to make sure everyone knows who they will be following.
- The rhythm captain should begin doing a rhythm of movements and all players must copy the movements the rhythm captain does.
- Once the rhythm captain and the other players are all doing the movements, the detective should turn around and face their screen.
- After a few moments, the rhythm captain should change the sound or movement, and all players should follow as quickly and discreetly as possible.
- The detective will get 3 changes to guess who the rhythm captain is.
- If they guess correctly, the game leader will select a new detective and a new captain and then begin a new round.
- If the rhythm captain isn’t guessed in 3 guesses, they should reveal themselves, and then it’s someone else’s turn to be detective and captain.
Important reminder for In-Person Activities on Campus

- Make sure your mask completely covers your nose, mouth, and fits properly against the sides of your face.
- Maintain at least a 6-foot distance from those who don't live in your household.
- Stay home if you are sick or if you have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for or experienced symptoms of COVID-19.
- The latest travel advisory and guidance continues to recommend that individuals avoid out-of-state non-essential travel.
