Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 8th January 2021
Happy New Year
Happy New Year
It has been quite a week in school, ending with a snow day which was very exciting for the children. We would like to take a moment to wish everyone in our school family a Happy New Year. Despite the last week and challenges that there have been, we are hopeful that the national situation will improve and normality will return! However, today it was lovely to see the smiles of the children as they enjoyed the snow!
School Update
Dear Parents and Carers
I would like to take the opportunity to thank the staff at school who have shown astonishing commitment and dedication this week. From a situation of preparing for opening, they have quickly implemented our plans for home learning and have been so positive and accommodating in their approach.
I would like to also thank all those parents who have been so very supportive and understanding over the last week and have shown such care for everyone in our school community. It is at times like these that we do need to help one another.
I am however concerned with reports that some parents are taking advantage of the goodwill of the school and sending children in when they don’t need to. The number of COVID cases in our area is the highest it has ever been and we do need to consider the needs of everybody, particularly the staff caring for the children. Whilst COVID is very mild in children with potentially no symptoms, there are staff in school who could be very ill, if infected. We do not use PPE when working with the children and social distancing is difficult, particularly with younger pupils. Therefore I do ask that people show respect and due regard for staff and children and consider whether they do need to access provision.
As a school we are doing our best to be as accommodating as possible, particularly for critical workers and children who have specific needs, meaning they need to access provision. However, as a school we do continue to reserve the right to refuse the offer of provision where it is not genuinely needed.
There have been some minor teething problems with remote learning, but I know that the teachers have been really impressed with how children have accessed sessions and work. We do ask that when children are on Zoom that they ensure that their name/family name is used rather than generic terms such as ipad. This means that staff can identify who is in the waiting room. Without an appropriate name, staff may not allow access to the online session.
Thank you for all your continued support.
I hope you have a lovely weekend in the snow!
Kind regards
