A Note from the Principal
Dear Woodland Families,
It has been a week full of activities for both students and families! Students have been hard at work, and I’ve enjoyed seeing the student work starting to fill the halls and bulletin boards.
On Wednesday and Thursday evenings, I loved meeting with so many families at our Curriculum Nights. It is always nice to share all the wonderful things that are happening at Woodland. If you were unable to attend Curriculum Night, look for parent information packets to be coming home soon.
Many of you asked about Parent-Teacher Conference sign ups. In previous years, parents would sign up on paper copies in the bus hall. We decided not to do sign ups in this way for this year. Each teacher will be scheduling her own conferences using Sign Up Genius. Those will be sent out in a couple of weeks.
Next Tuesday, we have our first PTO meeting. I hope many of you will attend and be a part of this amazing group. We will begin our meeting at 7:00pm in the Discovery Room.
Tonight we will be having our Family Picnic which is sponsored by our fabulous PTO. We are expecting many, many families and it is supposed to be a beautiful evening.
Have a fabulous weekend!

Student Directory-Opt Out Only!
Next week we will be sending out our "Directory Opt Out Form" in Friday Folders. Our PTO will be compiling a Student Directory in the next few weeks. This directory can be used for parents wishing to make play dates with classmates, or for any other social purposes. The directory includes addresses, parent names, phone numbers and emails.
If you would like to OPT OUT of the directory, please return the form to school no later than Friday, September 28th. (You DO NOT need to return the paper if you are okay with your information being in the directory.)
Any questions or concerns can be directed to the Woodland office, by phone at 248-537-6900, or email to kathleen.lalla@avondale.k12.mi.us or dawn.montano@avondale.k12.mi.us.

Positivity Project
This week we kicked off The Positivity Project by focusing on three key words: Other People Matter. These three words are the essence of the project. Students and teachers discussed the 24 strengths we all have and how we need to see the good in one another. Our teacher Super Heroes shared all of the strengths at our kick off assembly on Tuesday.
Next week we will be focusing on and discussing Curiosity on the announcements, in our class meetings and throughout the day.
Reminders
Please Label Items!
- When sending in lunch money, t-shirt orders, Fun Run donations, etc. please make sure that your child's first and last name, teacher's name and what the money is intended for is clearly labeled on an envelope or baggie. It is difficult for the office staff to know when so many things are coming in at this time of year, and we do not want to interrupt the classrooms during instructional time.
Absences
Please DO NOT send your child to school if:
- They have had a fever within the last 24 hours
- They have vomited or had diarrhea within the last 24 hours
If your child will be late or not attending school, please call the attendance line directly @ 248-537-6910 before 9am. The attendance line is available to call 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

If your student needs medication throughout the school day or in case of emergency, please make sure that your doctor has filled out a "Permission Form for Prescribed Medication" and please turn it into the main office. All medication must be stored in our clinic.
