Principal's message - week 37
Greetings North Plains Families!
I hate to start with a negative, but there is something that is causing some major issues here at school. Students are bringing "spinners" to school and they are being bought and sold to other kids, often at ridiculous prices. Students should NEVER be trading, buying, or selling things at school, and toys and other objects that are not directly related to education should be left at home. (This of course excludes special days that teachers specify). students have been informed that these spinners are unacceptable at school and must be left at home. If a student does bring one to school and it is seen by an adult, the student will be instructed to take it to the office and I will call a parent to come pick it up. Thank you for your support!
Glencoe High School is hosting a parent night on May 22 for all of the feeder schools including Evergreen MS and of course Glencoe HS. The focus of the meeting is around mental health and is geared toward upper elementary and up. A link to the flyer is http://tinyurl.com/WashCoMentalHealthTalk2017 Please note there is an RSVP in the flier as childcare and dinner are provided.
Tuesday the PTO had a meeting and talked about several things that I want to be sure you know about.
* The carnival is coming up June 10 from 12 - 3PM. This will be a fun event and all proceeds will go toward chrome books for use in classrooms. There will be cotton candy, pizza, a dunk tank, bouncy houses and more! I hope to see you there!
* The annual glow-ball tournament will be Sept. 9 and is at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course this year (see a link to the flyer below). We are in need of several things besides players including:
* Hole sponsors
* Raffle prizes
* Putting contest sponsor
* Cart sponsor
* Tournament sponsor
Please consider helping raise money for our STE(A)M program through this fun event!
* I've gotten permission from the district to work with a parent group to improve our field! If you are interested in being part of that group (hopefully with some equipment and time you are willing to donate), please send me an email and we'll get a meeting scheduled before school is out. It would be great to get things rolling and have a better space next year!
* Reminder 6th grade parents! If you have not submitted a photo of your 6th grade child's picture from kindergarten yet, these are due to Karolyn Duyck by June 2! You can email a photo to her at jkduyck@msn.com or bring it into the office and we'll give it to her for you. Don't miss out!
* Thank you PTO for approving the $10,000 proposal from our tech specialist, Ms. Bottema, to put new computers in our lab!! The computers currently in the lab will be parceled out to classrooms for student use. Thank you PTO and to Ms. Bottema for writing the proposal!
Thank you to those who came out to support us at the Proud to be HSD festival on Saturday! It was kind of cold, but the rain held off for our performance:) See photos below!
If your child is interested in auditioning for the talent show, be sure to have them sign up in the office. Also, there is a form for them to take home, get signed, and return to the office that just lets us know that you are aware they are staying after school and tells us how they will get him. Auditions are next Tuesday 2:30 - 3:30, and Wednesday 1:40 - 2:30. There is no activity bus so please take that into account.
The sun is finally here. Enjoy!
Becky
