Cold War facts

The war lasted most of the second half of the 20th century. The war was between the soviet union and the U.S. It went on from 1947-1991.

Cuban Missile Crisis

on October 14, 1962 America found missiles in Cuba that could reach us, put there by Russia. President Kennedy created a group called ExCom to discuss the crisis. We sent U-2 spy planes to gather information and several planes were shot down. On October 23, 1962 Kennedy put Cuba in quarantine. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson were counseled on the crisis and Vietnam by the secretary of state at the time. In 1949 Russia tested there own A-bomb and in response the U.S built the hydrogen bomb (the super bomb). Nikita Khrushchev agreed to get rid of the missiles October 28, 1962

Why did you choose this topic?

I chose this topic because I thought it was an important part of our history and it seemed interesting. During the cold war other important events happened like the Korean war, Vietnam war, breaking the Berlin wall and the Cuban missile crisis.

How does this event impact society?

People were stressed because they did not know if a nuclear war could brake out. Since then there have been treaties to prevent that from happening and we have been working on world peace.
