Sub-Saharan music is mostly joyful and upbeat polyrhythmic. Many forms of drums are used. This cultures make use of the membranophones more than any other cultures. Some drums are played as musical instruments and others called "talking" drums are used to send messages. Some drums are used only for religious purposes like funerals.
