Davenport's Weekly Update
Week of March 20th, 2022
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Hi Davenport Families!
“Spring adds new life and new beauty to all that is.” – Jessica Harrelson
Spring has Sprung and like the petals of flowers, we are BLOOMING! As the season changes and the clocks spring forward, challenges may come but nothing is too hard for our Davenport Family. Continue to push through the Madness of March. Continue to be Mad about Embracing, Engaging, and Educating the staff and students.
We are in the last week of March! We are looking forward to exciting events in the near future including, Autism Awareness Spirit Week, planning for field trips, and a much deserved Spring Break for staff and students alike.
Davenport Family, continue to be the bright sunlight that shines through the cloudy days! You are APPRECIATED!
Parents please be advised of the following:
- Bubbles for Autism: please see the attached flyer for the Autism Spirit Week.
- Grades will be posted to the Parent Portal today.
Have a great weekend!

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
Exploring Different Habitats
Miss McGroarty's 1st grade students explored the Arctic habitat and took a virtual tour of all things Arctic! Students used fake snow to create snowshoes, felt firsthand how blubber protects animals from extreme cold, made arctic shelters out of marshmallows and ended their week by creating a painting of the Northern Lights. The class can't wait to see what the rainforest habitat has in store next!
2nd Graders Show Their Moves!
Mrs. Schenck, Davenport Elementary Music Teacher, had Mrs. Pratt's 2nd grade students up and moving as they learned an Irish Dance for St. Patrick's Day.
Exploring Patterns In Music
Reading Buddies
Mrs. Hamilton's MD students started their "reading buddies" program on Monday with Mrs. Minter's first grade class and they loved it! They were also treated to a very special visit/lesson of the feathery kind this week when Miss Amanda brought in some of her baby chicks from home. Their students were excited to learn all about the baby chicks and their life cycles.
Awesome Artists At Work!
Miss Hein's kindergarten class is getting creative for spring! The students got to create their very own butterflies using markers, coffee filters, and pipe cleaners!
CLIMATE & CULTURE
Green Mustache Contest
Several Davenport Elementary students had fun participating in the Green Mustache Contest, sponsored by AtlantiCare. They made a healthy smoothie with green vegetables and fruit, drank their creations (even upside down) and then had their picture taken showing off their green mustaches. All of our participants did an awesome job, as did Miss Ricci for coordinating this project!
