GT Spring Referrals (1st-12th) and Kindergarten Screening

Each year Lago Vista ISD evaluates all kindergarteners to identify students for the Gifted and Talented program. During this screening process, with your consent, your child will complete one or more assessments. These assessments will be administered at school, and will provide us with multiple measures of ability, creativity, and academic aptitude. If you signed a consent form when you registered your child for kindergarten, you do not need to sign a new consent form. If we do not have a consent form on file for your child, one will be going home in this week's Friday folder. Please return consent forms to Randenne Kelley, GT Facilitator, by Thursday, February 1st.

The spring referral window for students in grades 1-12 is now open. Please visit the Curriculum and Instruction page on the district website, or click on the link below, for the referral form. All referral forms are due February 1st.

Six Flags Read to Succeed

Our school is participating in an exciting program that encourages students in grades K through 6 to read for fun. Read to Succeed is a free program sponsored by Six Flags Theme Parks. Every student who completes six hours of recreational reading before the deadline is eligible for a free admission ticket, valid at the participating Six Flags Theme Park. A parent letter and reading log is going home in today's Friday folder. All completed reading logs are due back on or before February 26th.

District UIL Information

Our District UIL Meet will be at Florence Elementary on Friday, January 26. Even though it is an early release day, all Lago Vista Elementary and Intermediate UIL contestants will need to stay at school and not go home at early dismissal. Students will eat lunch at school prior to dismissal. Buses will load at 11:00 AM to transport UIL contestants to Florence. Events conclude at 4:30 PM, and buses will leave Florence immediately after.

We will return to Lago Vista around 5:30 PM. If you plan to attend the meet, you may sign your child out to ride home with you. If you want your child to ride home with a person other than yourself, you must indicate that information on the form coming home in Friday folders, and that person must sign the child out before leaving the meet. The permission slip must be returned on or before January 17th in order for your child to attend the UIL competition, even though he/she made a team.

If your child is going to ride the bus back to Lago, please be at the appropriate campus at 5:30 to pick up your child. If you have children at both the Elementary and Intermediate campuses, make sure to indicate on which campus you will pick up.

Students may bring cell phones, and are also encouraged to bring books, games, hand-held devices, etc. to keep them occupied while they are waiting for their event. There will be Wi-Fi access. LVISD will not be responsible if student electronics are lost or stolen.

There will be a concession stand for the children to purchase items to eat and drink.

If you have any questions regarding the UIL meet, please contact your child's event coach or Cathy Evans, UIL Coordinator, at

Counselor's Corner

Hello LVES Families! I hope you are all staying warm! **This Sunday, Jan. 14, the LVISD Clothing Closet will be open for FREE Coats and Clothing from 2-4 pm!**

The Clothing Closet is located in Portable 6, behind the Intermediate School, at 20801 FM 1431 in Lago Vista.

In our counselor guidance classes this month, we are continuing our Project Vinátta activity of painting Kindness Rocks. Students will also be learning about the character trait of Citizenship. I will be teaching what it means to be a good citizen--a person who obeys rules and laws, and does their share to help make their home, community, and world a better place for everyone. Students will also learn about having good Digital Citizenship, which means being safe and kind when online or using technology.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please email me at, or call (512) 267-8300 ext. 4504. Thank you very much! ~Amy Sexton

¡Hola familias LVES!

4504. ¡Muchas gracias! ~ Amy Sexton
