The Hurricane Watch, February 2023
Hello, CMS Families.
This is a very busy time of year at CMS! Our fine arts department is gearing up for the spring musical as well as band and chorus concerts. Soccer, tennis, and track are off to a running start, and students and teachers are working hard to accomplish academic goals and prepare for End of Grade tests in May.
This is also the time of year that we begin planning and providing support for our fifth to sixth grade transition and eight to ninth grade transition. Here are the highlights:
5th to 6th Grade Transition:
o 5th grade parent fair - March 29th- 10:20 or 6:00
o 5th Grade tours and Question and Answer Sessions with Students - During the month of May
8th to 9th Grade Transition
o HS students review elective courses with 8th grade students
o HS Pep Rally and Tour
o Elective Registration
o March 9th-10th 8th Grade Parent Conferences with HS advisors
Thank you for continuing to monitor your student’s academic progress and encouraging them to be involved in extracurricular activities throughout the remaining months of school.
Go, Canes!

Adventure Awaits in the Library!
Several years ago, the Media Center decided to Genre-fy their Fiction collection. What does it mean to Genre-fy? Genre-fication is the process of assigning genres to books with the intent of helping patrons find books of interest. In a nutshell, it makes libraries more like bookstores, and it is transforming student motivation and interest in reading! This month we will spotlight some of our new books in the Action & Adventure section. Stop by and check out some today!

· City Spies by James Ponti
· Charlie Thorne and the Last Equation by Stuart Gibb
