Friday Focus
#ITSDIPDAY!! #DECEMBER
The Winter Sports Season is Here!
If you are around after school you have more than likely noticed that the gyms are bursting with activity. Wrestling is a few weeks into the season already; a number of the 8th graders had a meet up in Brookings this week! Basketball started this week as well. The great news in all of this is that the gyms are bursting at the seams due to high numbers! the 8th grade boys will begin practicing at 6:00am starting on Monday. This is great news as it frees up after school time for them if they need some academic help!
We have not had a Friday in a few weeks! Let's catch up with what has been happening here at MMS
MMS SnackPack to the Rescue!
What a response we recieved! in less than 48 hours, Ms. Eide had enough donations (Cash and goods) to do snack packs on the short weeks! Many students went home with smiles on their faces because they had some great things in their bags. Thank you to Ms. Eide for taking the lead on this and a Big "THANK YOU!" to all of you for donating!
Adaptive Music!
Going above and beyond is just part of what we do! Mrs. Heeren made time in her schedule to teach an adaptive music class to a group of students that don't normally get to participate in music. Thanks for making sure everyone here feels like they belong!
A step above the rest!
Often, we keep the PHW instructors busy downstairs. If you are new to the building you may not realize all of the great things they do! They focus on a "fit for life" mentality and keep the kids busy and stuffed with ideas on how to stay fit beyond the typical sports. Ever seen an 8th grade boy enjoy yoga? It is common at our school!
Cribbage!!
In math, cribbage is the norm. Students enjoy (yes, you heard that right!) math! Here is Mrs. Way teaching her class how to play cribbage so that they can begin the annual cribbage tournament! This game is taught by a lot of the math teachers as part of the curriculum. This time of year, I catch a lot of students honing their skills on the iPad in the morning.
Varying abilities!
Everyone gets a chance to shine on the ice. The young man in yellow was literally flying across the ice this week as he enjoyed some "free skating". I was able to flag him down and ask for a quick lesson on skating backwards. He showed me how easy it was to "Make C's with my feet" and that would propel me backwards. It is not that easy....
Festive!
Thanks to student council for making our entry way festive and bright! If you haven't had a chance, walk up and check it out!
Greenland Bound!
As part of the "Holidays Around the World" unit, Ms. Eich and Ms. Ross dressed up as flight attendants, handed out snacks and took the students on a plane ride to Greenland!
Passports and Tickts
Each country they visit will be added to their passport they create as they learn the different ways the holidays are celebrated around the world!
Choir Competition
Several students participated in a Choir Competition a week or so ago in Platte. They did excellent! Ms. Iris Anderson even got the chance to show her rapping skills off! See the video here!
