Band Buzz: September 25, 2022
Falcon Band and Color Guard
Message from the directors:
September 26 is a stadium rehearsal that was reserved before open house was put on that date. Getting time in Challenger is very competitive. Three of our four contests are in that stadium, and it sounds and feels totally different than our parking lot, making this an extremely important rehearsal. Mrs. Raska has graciously agreed to allow us to continue with rehearsal that evening. Parents are of course still welcome to attend open house and meet with their child’s other teachers. If you would like to meet with one of us, please feel free to email us at any time. Thank you!

Volunteers Desperately Needed for Saturday Contest
We are hosting a marching competition on October 1!
All hands are going to be needed to pull off this event, and it is a huge fundraiser for our band program! We are hoping to raise $8,000-$10,000 with this event but we will need your help!
We are going to need a setup crew starting at 7 AM, bus and truck parking crew, ticket/box office crew, ushers, Airgram sellers, Band Check-in, Warm-up monitors, ushers/ concourse monitors, Adjudicator hospitality and press box monitor, and finally clean up crew. Those jobs will be in addition to our regular volunteers needed for other contests.
I also need someone to be in charge of the event and band volunteers.

Have a teenager who needs service hours? We need their help, too! (Teens 14+ if a parent is not on site, please!)

Here are a few other tidbits to keep in mind for this competition:
- Since Lake is hosting the competition, we get free parking and entrance. You'll need to print off the Lake Parking Pass for your vehicle before 10/1. We'll park in the volunteer spots in the back of the Challenger Columbia Stadium parking lot. Otherwise, parking is $5 per car.
- Wear your Lake volunteer badge or Lake spirit wear and we should have free entrance to the competition as well.
- Our band will perform in the prelims at 4:30 pm. We are expected to be in finals as well, so we should perform twice that day.
- Students will report to the school for a run-through at 12:30pm. They should be fed, dressed, and ready to go. No lunch is served on this contest day!
- Dinner will be provided for all of the band students. It's already been covered in your band and contest meals fees. There are concessions in the stands if they need an extra snack between performances.

Marching Uniform Care
It was great seeing the band in full uniform at Friday night’s game - the new uniforms look really sharp! Now that we will be wearing full uniforms at each game and contest, we want to remind everyone how to properly care for the uniforms so they can stay looking great for all the upcoming performances.
Both the bibbers and the long-sleeve tops are machine washable - wash in cold water (no bleach), tumble dry on low heat, remove promptly after drying and hang back up.
The uniforms should be washed every weekend after each performance, or set of performances (i.e., Friday night game followed by Saturday contest). On the weeks we have back-to-back game/contest, the bibbers and top should be hung up in a well-ventilated area after the game on Friday night to dry out before contest on Saturday. Also, after each performance, the shako box should be left open a few hours to air out.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
