School Pajama Day - January 27th
The Warren School Senior Blended class is hosting a School-wide Pajama Day on January 27th, in honor of HuskyTHON benefitting Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.
HuskyTHON is an 18 hour dance marathon, hosted at the University of Connecticut. This year it will be held on February 19th-20th, and they are hoping to surpass last year's fundraising total of $716,000! All funds raised for this event get directly donated to the wonderful children and families at Connecticut Children’s.
On Pajama Day, make sure you bring your big smiles and any donation that you choose to help support the HuskyTHON! Students are asked to wear their pajamas in a show of empathy and support for the kids in the hospitals that are stuck all day in their pajamas.
Global School Play Day - February 1st
On February 1, 2017, from 2:00 - 3:15 PM, Region 6 Elementary Schools will join PK-12 schools from around the world to participate in Global School Play Day 2017 (GSPD) and enjoy some unstructured play time. Unstructured play helps students to develop creativity, passion, communication, collaboration, and a wide variety of other important skills. In his TEDx lecture, Peter Gray argues the case that today's kids do not grow up playing, which has negatively impacted them in many ways. Gray’s talk inspired the creation of Global School Play Day.
Students may bring toys from home to play with on Wednesday, February 1st. Please do not send in toys that are fragile or have removable parts that might become easily lost. Electronic devices, toys with batteries, and toy weapons are not allowed.
Possible toy choices include:
board games, dolls, Legos, blocks, trucks, cars, playing cards, empty cardboard boxes, markers, jigsaw puzzles, blankets (for forts), social games (charades, Pictionary, etc.)
It is our hope that this one afternoon of play will inspire families to plan for more unstructured “electronic-free” play time during non-school hours.
We are looking forward to a great afternoon of unstructured play!

Winter Enrichment Clusters Have Begun
The Warren School children recently began their second round of Enrichment Clusters for this school year. We are thrilled that in addition to the Warren School staff, Mrs. Nathalie Brodhead is offering a Cluster option about Architecture during this session. She was present last week when we shared all of the options with the students, and told me that if she were a student, she would love to participate in any of the topics because they all sounded so good. And she said that all parents should know how exciting this is for our students.
Since you all couldn't be there when the Enrichment Cluster facilitators presented their topics, I will try to do the next best thing by sharing the advertisements that the adults created.
(Click here to see the Winter Enrichment Cluster offerings.)
As the slides were displayed, the Warren School staff and Mrs. Brodhead talked about their topics, and encouraged students to choose their cluster if it matched their interests. Since Enrichment Clusters are designed to allow children to explore an area of interest, each student was assigned to one of their top three choices.
Are you interested in learning more about Enrichment Clusters? Would you like to participate as an adult volunteer? Please contact Angela Rossbach at 860-868-2223 if you would like to visit the Clusters, or talk about how you might be able to join in the fun!

Seeds of Dreams Seed CO
Created by the Warren School Fifth and Sixth Grade 2016
The mission of Seeds of Dreams Seed CO is to provide organic, raw, nutritional Harvest of Dreams sunflower seeds and reach out to help others in need. Through the purchase of the seed packets, our plan is to continue our support to local soup kitchens and food banks and to support the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) through donations raised.
This project was started and coordinated by 6th graders. All K-6 students are helping to weigh seeds and make packets.
We hope you'll support this project by purchasing seeds using this order form.
