Spring Break-April 1-5 NO SCHOOL
A message from the Principal-Mrs. Bookman
To our Suffield Family,
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Spring fundraiser. Students did a terrific job and we can't thank the parents who made it happen! The pick-up is on MONDAY, March 29th from 9:30-4:30. Please come to the front doors when you arrive to pick up your order. If your order is small enough, we will send it home with your child on the bus or through the car rider line.
I am in need of 1-2 parent volunteers to help with the delivery of these materials on Monday. If you can help, please contact Mrs. Bookman at shawn.bookman@fieldloclaschools.org. There will be no contact with students, only parents at pick-up.
Finally, a family reached out to me and would like to help others in our school with Easter. If you're in need of some extra help this Easter they have 2 Easter meal baskets to donate to a family in need. Please contact me and I will set this up in a confidential manner if you are in need.
Enjoy the sunshine this weekend!
Mrs. Bookman

Class Assignments 2021-2022
Discussions about class placements for the 2021-2022 school year will begin in April. If you have specific educational concerns for your child, please put this information in writing and send it to the office addressed to Mrs. Bookman. Please include learning environments that may work well for your child. Please do not request specific teachers as these will not be accepted or considered. We as a staff take great care in placing students in an appropriate learning environment that will best meet their needs. We try to create heterogeneous classes with a balance of genders and student needs. We use a system that is research-based and is proven to promote the most growth for all students. In order to have your concerns addressed, all letters must be received in the office no later than Friday, April 16, 2021. Any notification after this date will not be accepted.
Thank you to United Way of Portage County for donating the books "We March" and "Martin Luther King" to our classrooms

Zoom Clarification for In-Person Learners
If your child has COVID symptoms or is exposed to someone at home with COVID symptoms, and cannot attend school, please notify the office immediately.
A student with COVID symptoms is not required to login to class to live stream if he or she is ill; however, you have the option of having your child live stream if you feel that your child is feeling well enough to be online. If they feel well enough and will be logging in, please let your child’s teacher know so that the teacher will let him/her into the Zoom session.
If your child is quarantining they are expected to be logging into all of the classroom Zoom sessions throughout the day. If your child is home on quarantine and cannot login for any reason, you should call your child off school like you would any other day. If you have any questions please let me know.
If your child is off of school for anything not “COVID” related, he/she will not be permitted to join a Zoom session.
A message for our remote learners
- The next material pick-up/drop-off date is March 29th from 9:30-1:30. Drop off the YELLOW envelope with any work your child may have to turn in. Even if you do not have something to return, please bring the envelope. We will give you the RED envelope with new work.
- Please keep the office informed if your child will be absent from the live streaming. This is important for attendance purposes. Also, it is important for your child to log in on time so the teacher can let your child into the Zoom session. If your student is late, he/she may not be able to get into the session.
- Future pick-up/drop-off dates are:
- April 19
- May 3
- May 17
- June 1
- June 10

Hello Field Families!
The internet and technology has become such a wonderful tool for schools, businesses, and families, especially right now with the pandemic. But it also has its negatives as well, especially for our students. We want to bring awareness about the dangers of overuse of technology as well as dangerous websites and apps that kids should not be on. We have increasingly seen more and more issues at school that have come from the technology and or apps that are being used outside of school. Setting boundaries and expectations, having open discussions about technology and safety with your student are important. The more you have the open dialog with your students about technology, the more they will be willing to confide in you and come to you if there is a problem. Here are some tips for setting those expectations: When developing a plan for technology use, consider your child’s input. Although you are the parent and ultimately are the one to set and enforce expectations, getting input from your child can help them to feel valued in the process. A great way to do this is to create a technology plan or contract that you both contribute to. When talking about expectations for technology, it is important again to involve your child. Ask your child what he/she thinks the consequences for misuse should be. Establishing these expectations ahead of time will allow for fewer arguments and misunderstandings if/when something does happen.
Below I have listed apps and websites that parents should be aware of. These apps and websites market themselves to the young and can be very confusing for them so please keep a look out for them. On my school website I have linked multiple articles that go into further detail about each app and website so I encourage you to check them out.

Crayola Colorcycle Program
Crayola and schools across North America have banded together to help kids understand the importance of their role in protecting the environment. Suffield Elementary will now take part in recycling markers that no longer work. It’s a super easy project to help our environment! You can send in any brand of markers, sharpies, dry erase, and highlighters. Once we collect the markers, they will be shipped to a facility that repurposes them so that they are kept out of the landfills.
